The Institute of Transport Research within the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is conducting a study about the usage of electric vehicles among owners of such cars in Germany and the UK. This study should help identify influencing factors for a wider adoption and assessing implemented measures in both countries regarding their efficiency. Completing the questionnaire will take about 15 minutes.
We’d be happy to inform you about the results later. For this purpose you would have to give your email at the end of the questionnaire.

If you’d like to get more information about our research please visit our website at http://www.dlr.de/vf/en or send an email to [email protected]

I confess to be sceptical about this type of survey - the questions are always loaded to get answers close to those desired by the researcher. I have therefore e-mailed Hr Trommer and asked for an overview of the study - its always good to know the context of survey, as it will only be one part of the research.
I will share the result of my dialogue with SpeakEV users - then you will be better informed before 'hitting' the questionnaire.

Update 1:
A clarification from DLR:
"We’re doing a study at the moment to investigate the motivations of people and companies buying electric vehicles. Furthermore it’s important for us the look at the usage to estimate the impact to the traffic system and the environmental impact (reduced km of driven with conventional vehicles). We’ve already done this study in Germany with around 3000 respondents and like to look at the UK which is the third biggest market in Europe to compare our results with. I’ve spent 3 month in Newcastle upon Tyne last year and prepared the study for the UK together with Newcastle University. A very interesting aspect of the UK survey for example is the role of governmental incentives when purchasing an electric vehicle. We don’t have such incentives in Germany and like to know if they are necessary. In the US it seems so. From the UK I hear differently but I’d like to see the empirical results first."

Update 2:

DLR has undertaken to provide UK subscribers with an insight into the analysis conducted.

Conclusion:

All of a sudden we have an academically interesting piece of research, from which we might better understanding whether UK has been following viable strategies!

The Survey is for current owners - not protective owners and DLR are hoping for a good sample, so they get a usable result!

Go ahead - fill out the questionnaire, leave your e-mail and expect to hear some results in a few month's time!

MORE RESPONDENTS NEEDED!
I've hear from DLR this evening indicating that they are very pleased indeed by the response to this survey - both in quantity and quality of responses! Many, many thanks to all those who have taken the 10-15 minutes needed.
However, just like Oliver - its "Please, Sir I want some mooooore!"
Well Speak EV contributors - can we 'hit the target'? If we don't DLR's target we "ALL GET STARVED" of the report! Its a fascinating exercise and I think the report will be a useful insight - so if you are an EV owner (and have not already responded) - PLEASE GIVE IT A GO!

I was interested to complete the survey, however wondered whether my opinions would be valid as yet?

I don't collect my new car until Sat 29th March so am currently a Diesel driver. Having chosen to switch an EV should I wait until I have some experience of using the car? Or would my as yet unbiased opinions for choosing one be helpful, followed up by some feedback once I have run one for a while?

Just wondering??

Derek, Thank you for taking the challenge - your contribution will indeed be valued.
I regret to report that of all the UK respondents less than half that registered did not bother to complete the survey.
In the feedback from the DLR researcher, he was quite disbelieving that UK respondents saw no value in completing the research.:(:(

Ok, thanks Brian. I'll complete the survey and see how I get on with the questions.

THANKS DEAN! CAN WE PLEASE HAVE SOME MORE?

The final report may make fascinating reading - Germany's 'zero incentive' approach or the UK's 'bungs-to-business'!:rolleyes:

Ok, survey completed. I had to leave a few areas blank where it was asking specifics (about range etc.) where I am unable to answer as yet but otherwise I hope my answers are useful.

This survey is now into its last 25% and then we can all sit back and await the results!
Like Barry, I abhor surveys, because the answers are 'conditioned'; however, I give this one 4* because it is by an academic organisation working without Govt direction. So there is more objectivity!
If I tell you that OLEV declined to get involved you can assume that an independent assessment was not what was wanted!
Give it a go guys!!o_Oo_Oo_O
