Received the recall notice for the tail gate strut replacement. My local Vauhall dealer - Who is not an Ampera specialist is listed as the nearest place to have the work done. Hope this is true as it will save a much longer trip to the nearest Ampera dealer. Will call them on Monday to confirm if they can do it.

Mine arrived today as well.

It's waiting until the next service in October, along with the recall work for the ICE starting up.

Yep, mine arrived today but dated 31st July. I have pinned it up next to the Unintentional Engine Running one I got days after the 3yr service and MOT dated 22nd May. I don't either are life threatening to the car or I so I may very well hang on for the next one and book it in with a full house.

Had a call back from local dealer. They say they can't do it as it has to be an Ampera specialist! I would have thought it's a simple nut and bolt job that any dealer could do.

Update : called my second nearest non Ampera dealer and they said they can do it. So it doesn't need an Ampera specialist to carry out the work.

Bit of a fiasco!

When I received the tailgate struts recall letter, I contacted the three local dealers listed on the letter (not Ampera specialists) and received these responses.

1. Sorry we can't do the work
2. We could do the work, but we would need to get permission from Vauxhall.
3. Yes we can do the work.

So I booked in with dealer number 3.

Meanwhile I contacted Vauxhall customer services just to clarify the situation and they advised me that ANY Vauxhall dealer can carry out the work.

This morning I took the car to dealer number 3 only to be told that they cannot now do the work.
Apparently they had tried to contact by phone and email yesterday to advise me of this, but I never received any phone calls or emails!

When I asked why they could not do the work I was advised that they could not order warranty replacement parts for the Ampera and also could not request reimbursement of labour costs for Ampera work.

So all they could was advise of the nearest Ampera specialist, which of course I already knew.

I have emailed Vauxhall customer services again to ask for further clarification, and await their reply.

Yep....no other dealers want the work...even if it's nothing to do with electrics. You aren't even covered by the My Ampera collection service :(.

Thankfully I requested it be done at the last service, before the recall letter went out.

To be fair @Mike From Manchester you'll have to check with your Ampera specialist. It was something else I was talking to them about and they said they couldn't collect it. Recall work may be different.

It's actually easier and quicker for me to take it in and wait. But I do like to 'kick up a fuss' if I'm not getting my money's worth if they refused to pick it up. Generally I have to get up unnecessarily early waiting for the collector, then they are under no pressure to get on with it and try to keep it overnight or wait until after rush hour so I am hanging about again. And I'm left looking after a less than pristine looking Corsa on the driveway, ruins my perceived street cred.

Blimey, I haven't heard a single thing from Vauxhall about mine :( starting to feel unloved .....
The strut replacement applied to one Volt in my garage and not to the other. Apparently the older 2012s need it and not the newer ones. I'm sure it really comes down to which strut was used in the original assembly, and GM/Vauxhall/Opel will use the VIN to check whether or not the replacement is needed.

I asked my tech if mine needed the struts and he said they would simply be changed, nothing to check.

Maybe your other will be up for new struts too, now?

When I took both Volts in for recall work a few weeks ago I specifically asked if the one Volt didn't also need a strut replacement. He looked at the computer and said, "Nope". In reading gm-volt forum it appears that not every Volt needs strut replacement... for some reason. I didn't give it much thought after that.

I suspect all Ampera were built during the bad batch of struts. Sad to say but they were all probably manufactured within a year and then sat around waiting to be sold.

I bought my Ampera with the understanding that any work it would have to go back to an Ampera dealer. With my first Ampera I went to Swindon but this time I am using Wantage who were originally a Volt dealer but added Ampera late in the day.

In response to my query about non Ampera dealers refusing to do the work, I received a reply from Vauxhall customer services today.

Extract:

"I have passed your feedback on to our Warranty Department who in turn will clarify with the dealerships. All Vauxhall dealerships should be able to carry out this specific Customer Satisfaction Program as it in not relating to the High Voltage system. "

Next you'll only be able to buy wash screen fluid, and tyres, from an Ampera dealer! doh!

Wipers? Floor mats? Light bulbs? nonsense!

At least myAmpera sees sense, doesn't seem to have reached down further.

My struts were leaking when the car was delivered 'new' with 18 miles on the clock. I haven't received any recall notices to-date but when I booked it in for it's 1st service at the end of next month they said it had two recalls outstanding, struts and engine running, which they would do at the same time. They also agreed to pick the car up and deliver it back which I thought was particularly good considering the service centre is 46 miles away. I also asked them to look at the rear lights which have had water in them from new, but by sods law they where dry for the first time since I got the car, when I checked this afternoon.

Got my notice through in the post last week, forwarded from the old registered address. Turns out Vauxhall are rubbish at updating their records, even when you tell them you have moved!
Will worry about taking it to an Ampera dealer at some point in the future .....
