I guess the cars (and generally happy owners!) speak for themselves?

The positive PR is got via word of mouth, a lot cheaper than employing people to do it for you I suppose.

Yea! there are 3 ways of having marketing,
  • SEO
  • Free products
  • Word of mouth
So they are getting word of mouth more than they need!

technically becoming the first automaker who doesn’t talk to the press.
Not have a PR department does not preclude from talking to the press, PR is public relations not press relations, Musk spends plenty of time engaging with customers and many other in social media in a way that many other manufacturers would like to.

And depending if you are Vern Unsworth or not some may wish him to spend less time on it.

Fact is that Tesla are not exactly known for their wonderful campaigns or PR because the generally don't do much of it, despite that they don't seem to have any lack of press coverage both good and bad.
