Interesting to note that Tesla will be the first automaker in China to own 100% of its assembly plant thanks to Trump. Everyone else limited to 50%. JLRs partnership in particular sucks as they came so late to the party, but what people don't realise is that the only reason JLR started making engines in the UK instead of buying them in is that China insists that to get a vehicle assembly JV the foreign partner must own and transfer engine technology. JLR were being killed by Audi and BMW who were making more and more SUVs in-China and therefore avoiding the enormous import customs duties, so they had to assemble there, and that means that had to make their own engines, so despite the risk that ICEs will be phased out they went ahead to the benefit of Wolverhampton where the new engine plant is based.
