Hi All,

I picked up my i3 from EVEZY last week and thought we could all do with a place to share experiences and answer any questions people may have about the process.

First some background

EVEZY are a short term electric car lease company with a unique business model.

1) You rent the car month by month, no deposit and no minimum term (well a month minimum technically but you pay in advance)
2) Rental includes insurance (£1000 excess though in fault claims) up to 1000 miles. month, tax and all maintenance costs
3) you do not get a key, you use an app to lock and unlock the car.
4) You can pick cars up and drop them off and "depots" around the country.

You can use a referral code (see below ;) ) to get £50 off your first month.

My experiences so far.

I phoned on Wednesday and asked for a 120 i3. No problems at all; arranged pickup the next day from Windsor

Took the train to Windsor only to realise it is a 4 mile trip to the pickup point, I stupidly decided to walk. The pickup point is not obvious and is actually someone's house (the cars are all parked in a big yard) There were at least 3 i3s and a few Zoes there as well.

Once I find the car (the reg is on the app) it connect to the app via bluetooth and a button unlocks the car. The car was brand new and still had the plastic seat covers on so I was pleasantly surprised (note there is no guarantee that this will always be the case.)

The only hitch was that the 3 pin cable to charge the car is in the front boot and the button on the app did not seem to work. I phoned them and it is a known problem that they are working on (hint to EVEZY, if this is an issue don't put the charging cable in the boot!) Fortunately I RTFM and found the emergency release wire in the cabin so used that to open and move the cable into the back boot.

Car is great, there is a dash-cam but you soon forget about that, otherwise it is just like a normal i3. When I got home I was able to activate the BMW connected app and set preconditioning times etc so that all works like a normal car.

Overall I am very impressed, the lease is cheaper than most other places and far more flexible, it also includes insurance so that is another saving. My only concern is the app but it is working fine so far. I have only had to enter the password once but do now carry my reading glasses everywhere I go!

My referral code is in my sig. I know others have codes as well so feel free to contribute and people can pick a code at random!

Please feel free to ask any more questions if you have them.

It is only month by month with no fixed term. If you hand the car back in the first month, you need to give plenty of advanced notice.

To answer some questions....

Thanks for the write up I can see me using this if in between cars when this current lease ends.
Is it literally per month or could you do part month after the first one?
Yes monthly only

Collection is available for a fee.
yes it was £200 or so to deliver to Worthing!

Out of interest, what happens if you can't get a 'phone signal? Can the app connect to the car with wifi if there's no signal?
No need for signal. As long as you connect via wifi or 3g once a day it caches the access code for the day. ( I have not needed to log into the app it just seems to work so far) Connects to car via bluetooth so does not matter if you have no signal.

Of you lose/damage your phone you have to phone them (I know!) and they can unlock the car remotely.

I emailed them the other day with a list of questions, unfortunately they have no Ioniq's which we need as a family so we're out for now but it's exciting to see where it's going. I asked them about a few random different things and they were pretty responsive.

  • Your tyres are covered for wear and tear and punctures etc.
  • They review prices once a year, so hopefully no price rises whilst in the midst of using it. (Although unsure whether that's once within 12 months of you having it, or say every April at the start of the financial year).
  • New Leafs coming late this month/early April.

I don't know how they're financed or how they manage to offer such low monthlies, with no deposit, and everything chucked in. That kind of worries me that one day it might all go kaput and they demand their car back and you'll be snookered but it's definitely a model I'm interested in.

Other than potentially having to find a replacement car at short notice, there's no real problem if they do disappear. It's not like you've got any financial commitment. They're taking all the risks.

I think that if they find a way of making this profitable it is going to be a fantastic resource, making all sorts of options possible. Biggest problem at the mo is the very limited range of cars available.

I am now into my second month with EVezy and have been very happy with their service. I got £50 off my second months subscription because someone used my referral code. I haven’t yet found out who it was so if it’s a member of this forum don’t hesitate to let me know so that I can thank you!

#29 ·
Might have been me - I copied a code from another EVezy discussion on the forum when I signed up with them. Came searching for information on them after they were mentioned on the Pistonhead's Lease Deal thread.

I pick up my Zoe on Saturday as a stop gap until I a) decide which BEV waiting list to join or b) take a long term EVezy lease on whatever new comes on fleet. If you take a 6m+ commitment with EVezy they can process your OLEV grant so you are eligible to offset the cost of a home charger.

Glad to help someone as it meant that I saved too

I’ve just been told by EVezy that they will consider including any car, as long as it’s fully electric, on the fleet. They want to give people as wide a choice as possible. So Tim, your wish may well come true! Start keeping an eye on their website once the Model 3 is available in this country.

I’m hoping they will continue to add new vehicles to their fleet as they come out such as the new Zoe and the Peugeot 208 ev. Model 3 would be nice too, especially if it was at a reasonable price. With their subscription model, you can change your vehicle every month, so if the M3 is a bit too pricey you could always treat yourself to a month with it. Maybe take a couple of weeks off work and take it on a road trip! EVezy give you 1000 miles per month but you can go up to 1250 and pay 8p per mile on the additional 250 miles.

After the first month you can leave with 10 days notice.
I'm in my second month now, used up the 1000 miles and then just under 250 miles at 8ppm. I haven't been billed for them yet as they average them out over the hire term.

I’ve just confirmed with EVezy that you can do a part month after the first one. You simply need to give 10 days notice. As you would have already paid for the whole month, you would be reimbursed on a pro rata basis once the car is returned.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I really can't see how they can keep the prices this competitive over time though. Are they keeping prices low to gain market share and planning on increasing over time? I am paying 399PM for my i3 and that is cheaper than anywhere else I looked at for a 25 month lease not including insurance!

Happy to take advantage of the great prices but I can't see it staying the same for ever!

In case anyone doesn't know, the Evezy lady told me you can take out insurance for approx £60 a year and the insurance company will pay the £1000 excess if you had an accident. My leaf PCP ends in August and my car insurance runs out in June. I was thinking of selling my car to we buy any car and currently there is about £1500 over after I pay the balloon payment but that figure may go down. So confused what to do for the best. I'm about 2500 miles over what was agreed which would be charged at 8p per mile. Should I sell the car now or wait till my insurance runs out or should I just hand the car back and pay the excess milage. Our should I keep it till the PCP ends. I don't want to sell privately as I'm a single mum and a bit nervous to have people coming round wanting to test drive etc. What's the best option? Thanks for any thoughts. I'm definitely getting a Zoe from Evezy

Your excess mileage will be about £200 at 8ppm so if you can afford it I would think about paying the balloon and excess milage with the plan to contact one of the ev specialist dealers to see how much they would give you as a no hassle sale.
Then you are free to make the next step be it another PCP or Evezy type rental. Good luck.
Forgot to add, if you are going over your mileage on your current PCP then you don't want to do that with Evezy. 1000 miles a month is included, then the next 250 miles is at 8ppm but after that they really don't want you to go any higher so charge 30ppm and if you constantly go over 1250 per month then they reserve the right to cancel your hire.

Good point about the battery charge. I had assumed they were left on a charger but no. Mine only had 4 miles on the clock though so must have been trailered to Windsor. Had about 98% charge when I picked it up
Where abouts in Windsor did you pick the car up from as I was under the impression they only had two pick up points. Kings Cross in London and Birmingham.

Wish they had something a bit closer to Anglesey. Chester would be close enough. It wasn't the deciding factor but is one of the reasons I decided to lease instead of rent.

All in all a pretty painless experience. Picked up Zoe from the Small Heath (Birmingham). Slight hitch with the booking not appearing in the app, but after leaving a message on the 0800 number, got a call back within 10 mins and all swiftly rectified. Was then able to access the vehicle, note the damage (some scratches to the paint on the inner boot lip, and drive away.

135 miles (est) in the battery and car had been cleaned inside and out. Really pleased with it so far - off to practise charging somewhere quiet so I look like a pro when I turn up to a service station :)

48! Although not sure what had been transported in those few miles (in addition to the scratches on the inner boot lip, the rear seats had been down as the belts were stuck behind the seat). Both charging cables still in original packaging, and usual first aid/triangle/hi vis kit in the boot.

Charging process went fine (Fast charger in an Asda, and a Polar Ultracharge station at a local Holiday Inn) although pretty sure wasn't getting a rapid charge. Spent an hour there and only put about 40% back in. By my rough man maths about 12KWh. Is the truly rapid charge on the Zoe an option ?
