I've having my 2018 40kw Leaf serviced next week. I bought the car last year. I'm being told to bring the locking wheelnut key. I guess it's somewhere buried in the boot. Leafs definitely have these? It's not something some Nissan cars have and not others? I'd have had a look before posting this but it's pouring with rain.

Nissan service centres should be able to remove them if they are fitted, have you checked that you actually have locking wheel nuts fitted?

If you have locking wheel nuts fitted one will look completely different to the others.

During a service they'll remove the wheels to check the brakes, so of course they'll need the key. It's standard language added to all service reminders. You should be able to tell quite easily by looking at the nuts - one on each wheel will be obviously different. If they're all the same, don't worry about it.

You will also need the locking wheel nut key if you have to change the tyres of have to have a puncture fixed.

I keep my one with the tow hook in with the granny charger in the rear wheel arch stowage net, so it could be worth checking the nets both sides.

Failing that, check the secret compartment in the near side rear wheel arch - where the tyre inflator gunk is stowed.

I've only been 1,500 miles in my Leaf in a year so I'm lacking motivation in getting on top of things like what to do in the event of a puncture. I must get my act together though.

During early summer last year I did some work on my Leaf's brakes and when finished went whizzing up the road to check my work, completely forgetting about the key still sitting on one of the locking nuts. Needless to say, it flew off, and in spite of extensive searching, I never found it. A telephone call to the local Nissan main dealer revealed that they had a duplicate workshop key, and for the price of four new wheelnuts, one of their staff replaced the now redundant locking nuts whilst I waited, even using a calibrated torque wrench (I spotted the sticker on the handle) to tighten the nuts. I guess all main dealers would have this facility.
