Okay earth dwellers, how on earth is this app supposed to work?

I have downloaded and installed the MyCitroën app, which I’m assuming is the same as the myPeugeot or myVauxhall equivalents, and have created an account.

I have carried out the basics i.e. paired it to the car via Bluetooth et cetera, but I’m not really interested in the basic stuff such as miles travelled blah blah blah, I want the e-remote function so I can precondition the car and control charging if and when I need to.

I slrfound that you have to subscribe to the e-remote service, which I have done and received email confirmation of the ‘order’. However, I still don’t have the function within the app therefore I cannot see charge status or control the climate.
In order to better understand how the app works, is there anyone out there who can explain the following?

The tutorials say that you can use the app from anywhere, inferring that you don’t need to be physically connected to the car by Bluetooth. If this is the case, then how does the car communicate with the servers which I assume back-end the connected services? Does the car have its own cellular Sim card installed somewhere?

Or can anyone point me to a thread on here that covers similar issues?

Thanks

Yep, it’s the waiting game I’m afraid, and a few journeys in the car before your phone is “trusted” that it belongs to you and should pair to the car.
It took about 24/48hours after setting up the app for the e-remote stuff to start working for me along with 3 journeys of at least 10-15mins.

Useful to hear that, thanks.

Sad to say that the car has been sat on the front lawn since I picked it up two days ago, having gone nowhere.

Best do some driving I guess, perhaps to find a free vend public charger because my tethered home charge point is still type 1, as I’m continuing to use my Outlander for the moment.

General rant:

'My'app is a terrible terrible way to name an app.

Android defaults to sorting apps in alpha order. I

The old BMW app was 'BMW Connected.' The new one is 'My BMW' I have to remeber which ones are 'my app' and which ones have sensible names.

Don't hold your breath for anything to work properly with the PSA Group app. Even if it does register your car, the programmers who set up all the code on the PSA Group servers are pretty useless at getting anything to work properly. You may think that it's the app that's the problem but if you look at the log files for the app, you will see that inevitably, it is software doing and often security certificates at the server-side that are the cause of the issues.

I have now been waiting for nearly a month for Vauxhall to fix a problem at the server end because the app doesn't update the SoC or allow me to set or amend schedules for charging or pre-conditioning. After countless emails and sending them screenshots and the logs, they still can't arrange a proverbial piss up in a brewery.

I put it down to inept management of the development team with what is probably some team members who are way out of their depth with the project.

Thank you for that insight.

I sincerely hope that the app works for me within the next few days, particularly with being able to precondition and check charging status etc. If it does not by the time the week is out, I’m afraid the car will be going back to the dealer for a refund under the distance selling regulations

You don't need Bluetooth connection to the car, just an internet connection, either via your home network or via cellular. The car has the SOS button so must have a cellular phone embedded. I'm not sure whether the app uses a data connection or the server just sends an sms to the car.
From the stage you're at, and as someone else mentioned, you need to drive around a bit. The tutorial says you have to make three trips but this may just be a guide, I only had to do one trip and then the next day, the controls appeared in the app.
Pre conditioning and remote charge 'works', however my two preconditioning tests on frosty mornings set the alarm off after a few minutes. It can only be activated if the car is locked which seems like a design flaw.

Thank you for that response.

I did make a trip today, I ventured out to a Rapid charger that was on free vend (purely by chance).

Now this is something new, I am not with the C4 currently, and just logged into the app while sat in a car park in my trusty Outlander;

Now I don’t have an E-TENSE, but from previous replies it’s no surprise there is cross contamination on app branding...

This takes me to;

I will have a crack at that when I am back with the vehicle.

Ditto, I am happy to report
I haven’t made the three trips yet but I do have the features now.

I received an email stating the E remote had been activated, and although I didn’t see it straight away because the controls were obscured by a ‘discovery’ page, they are there and I can access the SoC.

Thank you to all respondents (y)

Feeling a bit more relaxed about the car now.
