Two articles that I found interesting which show EV dispersement across the USA:



What I find most-interesting about this information (besides that I live in Washington and was happy to see Washington state as tops) is that EV dispersement does not entirely follow affluence. (Compare to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_income )

My suspicion is that while state government incentives do play some part in acceptance and use of EVs (especially in the public charging infrastructure), the biggest factors on EV uptake will have to do with the limitations on public transportation in the area coupled with the average commute distances.

Thus, it's not surprising to see relatively affluent and eco-friendly areas such as the US Northeast not be in the top spots for EV sales simply because public transportation is widely available in the more-populated areas there.
