Has anyone noticed that when the Tesla auto steer TACC is active (two blue lines on the screen), if the car crosses a yellow hatched box (the ones you are not allowed to enter unless your exit is clear), it immediately displays a red steering wheel and asks you to take control and cancels the auto steer?

This happens even if the box is clear and there is no other traffic.

It's like it sees the yellow box lines as a warning?

I imagine that must be a particularly large intersection. The car is probably freaking out because it cannot lock onto the lane lines after the intersection, not because the cross lines.

I've never had this happen, on intersections with these crossing lines or unmarked ones.

Lane line detection is still largely good old fashioned contrast-based computer vision. A ton of lines going in different directions (if it can’t see beyond and disregard them like the guy above says) will mean it has zero certainty of which ones are correct, and trigger a disengage.
