I am really please to have personally converted my ageing Rolec Type 1 wallpod to a Type 2 at a cost of £219 simply by rewiring our Type 1 to Type 2 tethered cable and replacing a faulty Mode 3 controller. The wall charger was initially installed via Grant for a new Leaf when first introduced. Now a new Kona electric Type 2 would have negated a second HMGov grant so a full replacement would have cost min £800.

Well done . What was up with the mode3 controller.
The Rolec mode3 controllers are renowned for getting faults due to the compact internal circuitry.

Yes I have one fail that I had to replace.
What did you replace it with?
The only option initially was to replace it with an identical new part until I can research a more reliable item should the new one fail following guarantee.
Sorry to burst your bubble (but it's going to happen anyway!) but Its a shame you didn't research viridian before the repair, you'd have saved even more - but well done for doing it old school - many on here have got far too much money and wouldn't have bothered !!

Viridian EPC is a better item, but I'm pretty sure the LED lights polarity is the other way round! So you end up discarding the Rolec LED unit, rather a nice one IMHO, and installing a clear window somehow, then peeking through the window to see the already-built-in leds on the Viridian itself. So if the Rolec EPC dies, go to ecoharmony.co.uk for one! And you can also fit the newest PEN-fault protection & 6mA DC fault protection kit if you don't already have that, and you want to be as safe as poss.
