I'm a VW ID.3 1st pre-booker, and I'm due to commit to purchase in a couple of weeks. What trade-in should I expect for my October 2013 white ZOE Intense with ~40,000 miles? I have kept the Renault warranty going and paid for 3 years on TomTom Live & Connectivity (2.5 years left). Includes front mudflaps and centre arm-rest. I'm currently paying £59/month for 6k miles/year.

Or would I be better to sell it privately?

Of course you would be better selling privately, but there's no certainty you will get a buyer.

Get a range of trade in prices from dealers and EV specialist garages. Then look on AT and guage a reasonable price that would make it worth while selling it over trade in.

Speak to some of the specialist dealers that advertise on here. They will probably give you the best price without waiting for a while to sell privately.

We traded in the wife's 64 plate intens 33,591 miles which we bought for £5495 over three years ago and got £6000 from same dealer so hold out for a good trade in price!

What's the lead time on the ID.3?
As a pre-booker for the special 1st edition, I'm expecting to get it late September or early October. If you order the normal production model, you would probably get it in the first quarter of 2021.

Ahh ok, sooner than I thought.

I wouldn't be surprised if VW try and avoid taking it in as a part ex.

Give this dealer a call and see if they’re interested in buying your Zoe. Believe they are based in the Bristol area but they will send a trailer to pick vehicles up.

I've had a reply from James at We Are EV with an approximate figure for my ZOE of £4.5k. He reckons I might get £5,250 privately, if I can be bothered with the hassle and paying for advertising etc.. I'll contact him again once I have a firm date for the ID.3 (assuming I go ahead with it). Thanks for the recommendation.

I don't expect the VW dealer will offer me much, even though Martins VW Basingstoke is next door to Martins Renault Basingstoke (where the car came from). I'll know in about 10 days.

Yup bottom dollar is all you'll get from EV specialists or regular dealers, they offer the same "no more than £4500" regardless of condition.... £2k on the sticker price and they are gone in no time. I'd say good luck with a private sale, I had mine listed for almost a year typically advertised at £500-1000 less than cheapest on Autotrader and it never sold.
Age, battery hire, miles covered are all against you. If you chop your car in every 2 years on a PCP then you can claim you've got a good deal.

Not really. I was offered within £200 of what I got privately for my ZE40 from an EV specialist.

I'd rather it went to someone from the community.

I think @andyfras lives within commuting distance of London, so with no CC I suspect a private sale will be feasible, location is key. As others have said, an EV specialist may offer a decent price. Try JustEVs in Southampton too.

I'll give them a try too.
I'm calling £4500 trade in no mater where you trade it. Also remove everything of value. You'll get the same £4500 regardless. So centre arm rest, boot liner, granny lead those all have value that isn't included in your trade in price.
