I have received an email this morning from my local UK dealer, asking that I make contact to commence the ordering of my ID3. I will accept the offer and make contact later today. I doubt I will learn anything new, but I will ask about timing, specification, pricing, etc and report back.

Hopefully other UK prebookers will also receive similar emails.

Haven't heard anything... Not surprising, knowing my local dealer!

Had an email from my local dealer this morning too, the first for ages. It thanked me for my interest in the ID, but no mention of starting the ID.3 1st ordering process. Emailed back asking if they could find out when the ID.3 1st ordering window will open. Not holding my breath though - we'll probably find out through other channels before they do! :D

I've just rung my dealer (Bath, UK) and they knew nothing about anything, including the order opening date. Waiting for a call back, won't hold my breath!

Disappointing. Have they heard of the ID.3?

No news, I'm afraid, just a false alarm. To quote the dealer "There's been a bit of confusion today over a couple of emails". It would appear that I should not have been contacted, but one of their two ID.3 'specialists' will get back to me.

I was called this morning by my dealer about my ID.3 Prebooking. Just to say that things will be happening and he reckoned the order window will be open for a month. But he had no real details, so it was an initial curtesy call really.

Even though I've pre-booked, these are the opening two paragraphs of the email I received:

"Thank you for your enquiry regarding the ID-3 range. I'd like to take this opportunity to compliment you on your choice of vehicle.

Unfortunately orders for this model are not being taken due to the lockdown and we currently only have a tentative release of late summer. You can register your interest by signing up directly through the Volkswagen website by clicking here. Once registered Volkswagen will update you with information including delivery times and arrival at our showrooms."

Fair play to Bath Volkswagen... rang me back today as promised, confirmed 22nd July order opening, "we are slowly starting to get information from HQ", I'll be asked to make an appointment from 22nd onward and, hurrah, "we will have full details of finance options."

Sorry, this is the date for pre-bookers, or for something else? Thanks

I got quite excited when I was contacted by my dealer 3 weeks ago, although it turned out to be a false alarm. At the time I was advised that someone would get back to me. No-one returned my call. I received an email from VW on Wednesday this week (as most of us UK prebookers will have) urging me to contact my dealer to place my order before 19 August. I have waited a couple of days for the dust to settle on the early interest, and I have just telephoned to make an appointment. Total waste of time. The salesman I spoke to, and his manager, insist that they have no information and orders will not open for another 2 to 3 months 'due to Covid19'! I patiently tried to explain, but he insisted that I was wrong. Oh well, it looks like another ID.3 First prebooking will be cancelled.

No wonder people get fed up of dealers, it always seems we know more than them.
And that included VW if the previous changes to the agent model were anything to go by.

Just back from our appointment with the dealer.
Sorry to say, we have now cancelled, and will not be getting a “1st Edition”
Key issues for us (only the plus available in the uk)- No heat pump, No traffic Assist.
After the London event I’m also concerned that the interior, and in particular the seats, are not of the standard I expect on a £40k car.
Dealer was keen to try and push the “Lease and Care” - but this worked out at over £600 a month, with a deposit...... and there is no option to purchase at the end of the lease!
He highlighted the WeCharge offer of £600 of free charging - I asked on which networks...... and after going to find out, he confirmed that it’s only with IONITY - as they only have 6 sites in the country, it’s not a lot of use!
First Movers club doesn’t really get you anything...... 3 months of lease payments - but only on Lease&Care - this “benefit” does not apply to PCP.

So we are now on the priority list for a series car, and will revisit when they have cars available that we can sit in and test drive.

Sounds pretty sensible to me, I wouldn’t be interested either on those terms.

I’ll be a lot more interested once the initial interest subsided and the series cars are quietly slipped out.

It’s early days still for EVs, not only for VW but for most other mainstream car makers.
