Well the Fluence isn't the greatest EV available but £5250 for a 20,000 miler is Twizy territory. It's almost worth going for to get the battery pack for home storage!

Batteries are not included :p

It is cheap enough to overlook the silly monthly battery fees at least.
Dohh! Still very cheap motoring if you can live with the compromise of slow charging only.

Not just slow charging, it has battery swap capability!!!!

Good luck finding a battery swap location!
There was one up for just under £6,000 a couple of days ago so I wonder if it is the same one with a reduced price. I was tempted as I drove one of these and I really like them; I had a nice spin on the M6/M42.
Time to see if there are any bargain Kangoo Z.E's out there. Not sure if Debbie would agree to be a 2 BEV household.
There is a low mileage 2012 Kango Z.E. at £5995 + VAT and a 14 plate with 1,000 miles for £8989+VAT

These are getting to be a real bargain. Put the 20k you save against an env200 in the bank to pay your £90pcm battery rental for all eternity , and never worry about degeneration again....:)
"Is" the Fluence ZE available in the UK the swappable battery version? I understood there were 2 versions, one swappable, one not..
If somebody is interested to get renault fluence I may ask for one of our town taxi companies, I was speaking with them before and they want to sell it because them are out of range for the running as the taxi cars and no RC possibility.

My understanding is that all Renault batteries are "swappable"
Having been originally designed to comply with the now defunct "better place", it wouldn't make sense to redesign your whole battery set up, would it ?
I was tempted...

TBH the battery lease puts me off. It's a personal choice, but I am really adverse to "financing", and try to avoid wherever possible. Just a bit left to go on my mortgage, and I'll aim to never finance anything again.

I'm with you on this in principle. The finance company will always set its rates to make a profit from any deal. However, for EVs, where issues like battery degradation and long term reliability are unknowns, leasing may be the least risk option – especially for extended ownership or when buying used.

Completely agree. Ultimately it's like an insurance safety net. Part of the finance premium is towards this, the other part just for lending.

Morally I'd prefer to pay just the insurance premium portion.

I think it was @Paul who suggested a GAP insurance style policy against battery issues, but AFAIK this isn't available standalone on any EV.

TBH I think this would be a good thing as in general the actuaries would do a good job in determining the likelihood of a failure. This would add visibility to the likelyhood of a failure between EV makers. Effectively the premium difference between a Leaf's battery and a Tesla's battery would show how confident the insurance companies are it will hold up.

We are too early yet for full lifetime analysis, but in a couple of years time when sufficient statistical data can be collected we will find out.

Yes. There aren't any battery swapping stations though.

Finally I post something useful. :D

Not a great hit rate mind you...

I read that Renault removed swapping from Zoe during a late redesign. Saves them a little on costs.

I would imagine the same is true for the updated Kangoo Z.E. They took out battery swapping to reduce costs. This is just a guess though.

Renault promised rapid charging on Kangoo phase II but then quietly dropped it. My guess is their large fleet customers didn't want to pay the extra €150 per unit. Most of the vans go to the French government. BEV vans work well for mail delivery.
I'm sure you are right but if you watch the youtube clip of zoe manufacture the battery fits in 20seconds max so presumably pops out just as easy. Looks like about 10 bolts and one plug

Fluence Z.E. has 4 massive bolts at the bottom and two alignment pins at the top. You can just about see them in this Video.
