I've been struggling to disconnect my charging cable from the car. I think the wriggling required may have caused an arc on the earth prong. A highly skilled repair-man cracked the seal of the 'trigger', and soldered the prong back in place and glued the housing back together. All the lights came on... including the light on the trigger. But when the cable was plugged in... no green light lit up on the dash.

As a test, I plugged into a public charging point. The light on the dash lit up amber... but didn't go to green. I phoned the crowd that manages the public chargers, and they confirmed that particular station was in working order. I checked fuse #44, which the manual describes as 'charger'. How will figure out if the car is able to take a charge?

I finally got speaking with an Ampera specialist at Bellinger's Grove site (nicknamed Spin...01235 421007). I told him about my issue of the car not taking a charge (connected cable causes the amber light to go on, but not the green light). He advised me to check the battery coolant level. He waited on the line while I did this, and was then told my coolant level (on the reservoir with the locked lid...which can be gently hand-prised outta the way) was 3cm lower than it should be. Evidently the level should be just below a black sticker on the tank. Spin then advised me to add some de-ionised water (took about a third of a litre). I'll report tomorrow if this fix has worked.
