Volvo will be selling only pure BEVs by 2030. They also are moving to online-only sales.

Dealer forecourts will stay open to assist with sales. However prices will be fixed at the on-line offer.

(paywall, sorry)

Volvo Press Release:

Volvo Cars is fundamentally changing how and where to meet its customers, and will transform the current wholesale model by moving online and with strong customer relationships.

It aims to be a fully electric car company globally by 2030 and will launch a completely new family of electric cars in coming years – all of which will be available online only.

Very disappointing, why name it a new car when it really is just an XC40 with modified rear end.

I'll keep on waiting for a "real Volvo estate", maybe one day they will release V60 EV...

The only difference from Volvo to BMW and Mercedes is that Volvo just changed the top of the car while BMW and Mercedes changed the bumpers a little bit in their cars. BMW in their X3 to X4 and X5 to X6 and Mercedes on the GL coupes.

Can’t understand what’s the big deal. If it was a Mercedes it was a great car and a great idea.

The C40 recharge was the least important part of the presentation.

This is a huge paradigm shift for a legacy automaker.

Worldwide (including the US!)

All BEVs sold On-line at fixed prices. ONLY.
Half of their cars pure EV by 2025.
100% BEV by 2030.

According to the BBC article, Volvo have also said that they won't be putting fuel cells in cars:-

BBC News said:
Volvo will not be investing in cars with hydrogen fuel cells, as it does not think there will be enough demand from customers. There is also a question mark over hydrogen's availability in comparison with charging points for electric cars, a spokesman said.

Don’t they already use the Polestar platform/skateboard for these? So the same will be used for the other models i suppose. I may be wrong.
Also there’s already a V60 plug in hybrid but a fully electric is long overdue.
