Hi, long time no post.

My dealer rang me this week to get my [3 yr old] GTE booked in, as engineers are flying in from germany to check the battery.

I’ll get a Passat GTE loaned for the two days they need it. No explanation as to what they are looking at.

Anyone else had this, or know anything about it?

Thanks

Thanks :) The German translates as:

My Gte 2015 (May) is now called in for a large check of the Battery / Hybrid system. The battery should be down-mounted and checked carefully. Then the battery should be vacuum packed and assembled and checked overnight that everything is sealed without leaks. They said everyone was going through this check. It should take 2 days now in the beginning until they have got routines on this. But it will be at least a day. Great follow-up. They called before the notice so we agreed on time and free car hire !!Many thanks :)

So that’s what it is!

There's a post on the golf gte fb group.

It's apparently "lifetime study 93C9"

Had same call the other day, apparently they want to check all HV battery casings.

I told them I'd just had a brand new battery installed (possibly to fix this fault!), with a manufacturing date of March-2018, and that they should check whether it still applies to me - no phone call as yet back, so will see.

We got the phone call today regarding the HV battery check. Unfortunately it’s not my local dealer, guessing only limited dealers are getting training and specialist tools to do the checks. Given our GTE was built in May 2015; with it being one of the early examples, it’s one for the getting checked sooner.
I did ask the dealer more about the recall, was told they have been provided VIN’s and registration numbers by VW, and to promptly get the cars in for the free safety checks with a Passat GTE out as a loaner until passed off.
Must say I’m impressed for at least being provided another PHEV instead of an Up or Polo.
Fingers crossed ours will be returned promptly with a clean bill of health along with clean paintwork.

Replacement of the battery case is the main part of the recall, whilst in a full check of the HV battery will be carried out, anything untoward would entail replacement of the battery pack at the same time.
Guessing by replacing the battery case, there has been issues already found.

I was told it was older cars only -- though no date range.

One supposes that VW hasn't fitted a dodgy battery to mine, with a manufacturing date of March 2018 on the replacement, but who knows?!

Usual copy/paste response from VW(UK) customer services in that notice of any recall would be mailed to vehicle owners's address recorded with DVLA and not surprisingly no facility to save "live chat" transcript.

Our GTE was ordered in May 15 and delivered late July. To date I’ve heard nothing and I have checked the online VW recall page, this says nothing doing at the moment. Probably receive the recall notice today

"The wheels of the bus, turn slow - slow - slow" at VW !.
Anybody with small children / grand children will get this joke.
I must have heard that song a million times by now, I can hear it going around in my head in bed, bless them !.

Whilst suggesting no one posts full VIN if gets the call it might help others to see "asterisked" numerals for build time where "F" = MY2015 and "W" = Wolfsburg

Thanks both for replying, I'm trying to narrow it down further as mine built Apr/May 2015 is in this sequence WYWZZZAUZFW80**** which appears of a similar age to that of "BrianW66" but as yet seems not eligible for inspection.

WVWZZZAUFW80**** is our VIN.
HV battery passed off as ok, new case fitted, will collect tomorrow.
As per dealer, we were their 5th GTE to be inspected, with none yet requiring a replacement battery, so good news to longevity prospects.

More digits: WVWZZZAUZGW8046xx

So also have "80" in my VIN, wonder if this is a common grouping.

Also wonder if I got lucky and they gave me a new battery because they hadn't figured out it was just casing that needed to be replaced?

I will have to check my VIN, but the car was registered May 2015, so I assume build a couple of months before that.

I haven't had a call for from VW though. My car was just serviced (regular) at VW last week though. Could they do the study in less than a day?
