VW ID4 Delivery Date Moved back!

Ordered my first EV (VW ID4) back in August 2021. Via VW Fleet services (Company car). I was originally given a provisional delivery date of March 2022. Today VW Fleet advised that the date has been moved back to 30th June 2022. Again this is a provisional date.

Mine had an estimated build date of “week 6 2022” for ages (originally the build date was “week 42 2021”). They still haven’t made it!

So I wouldn’t get too encouraged.

I heard that if your order has slipped a few times you can send a strongly worded email to the CEO ([email protected]) and get your order prioritised. I did that, obviously Blume doesn’t read them personally, but someone from Executive team at VW UK rang me and promised to escalate with the factory and that when they’d done so previously vehicles had magically been built…
Interesting, wonder how quickly that trick will be stopped their end when everyone emails him!

Wonder if I can do it even though its a lease through work sal sac. I'll give it a go!

Nothing to lose!

Seems not, sent an email to Lex to chase the dealer if there was a confirmed build date and then at the same time sent an email to Oliver.

Got a response from the Exec UK team saying they're looking into it and then just now a response from Lex saying it's built and awaiting shipping to the UK, delivery to the dealer in 2 to 3 weeks. Had nothing before to indicate any build dates just a delivery expected of Dec.

Coincidence? Who knows but if it turns up in October that'll be 14 months.

Finally.

Out of interest how long do you generally wait between first ordering and then getting any kind of build date indication? I presume nobody has really beaten the build date. I've been advised that it's 50+ weeks currently from ordering, but by the sounds of it I'd expect it to be even longer than that really.

Well for me it was ordered Aug '21 expected Jan '22. Which then moved to March, then April, May, June, Oct and then finally December.

From what I'm hearing new orders are generally a year for ID3 and 4s and looking like they are taking that long. Borns on the other hand are taking less time still, although starting to hear on the Facebook group that some orders are getting pushed back so seems the priority of the Born is waning.

Stinsy has had it worse than me with his ID4 max order.

I ordered June 2021 for December 2021 delivery. I’ve lost count how many predicted build dates have come and gone still no car I’m starting to doubt that I’ll get it I before 2023.

For me the lead time isn’t the problem. The problem is that VW don’t have a clue what cars they’ll be making a few weeks time. If they’d told be when they missed December 2021 that it’d take at least another year, probably longer, then I’d have been able to plan accordingly. But no. The car has been “6-weeks away” all year!

That's it, the communication has been diabolical.

Last I heard was Dec, not till I chased up am I then told its built and on its way. They'd have known weeks ago it was going to be built, the last time progress was checked with the dealer was the 30 August and no update from the Dec date provided.

Had I of not chased, who knows when I'd have been told. Probably not till it ended up on my door.

They probably found one that was the same spec you'd ordered where the customer has given up and cancelled and because you complained they'd given it to you!

That did cross my mind, its just a life spec in manganese grey (they don't do that colour anymore) and the 18" alloys.

Pretty typical spec folk would order.

Who knows.
Interestingly the ID.4 Max isn't a model you can order currently, GTX Max is the closest. Also the Family is now a rebundled Style. I'm not sure when manufacturing actually changed though.

I think one reason mine is taking so long is that I've ordered the "Max".

With any luck they might upgrade you to a GTX Max which is arguably the closest model now.

I doubt it!

They're still building old specs, I enquired a couple of months back that Manganese Grey isn't an available colour anymore but was assured it'll still come with that.

ID3s have been simplified to just a Life spec now but older orders of say Family are still being built.
Update from Arval today… moved from back end of Dec to early Feb, originally estimated for early November. I’ll be back in Jan to keep you all updated on the next delay 🙄😂

My dealer is still confident about pre-xmas delivery. However he was pretty confident about me getting it before last xmas.

He just didn't say WHICH Xmas!

I think I'll feel lucky if I've got mine in 2023 at all.

I've been worried that VW will do what so many other manufacturers have done and cancel the order!

I've locked in a REALLY great price and (what now looks like) super-low-rate finance!

I was intending to pay the finance off as soon as I got the car but given what interest rates are doing I'll probably keep the loan and pay some off my mortgage!

I wasn't going to get finance until I get the car, but I've got the option of a PCP at a good deal. I don't think they'll cancel orders but who knows?

When BMW increased their prices, they told everyone who'd ordered at the previous price: their order was cancelled and if they wanted a car they could get to the back of the queue and pay the new price.

You can lock in the PCP when you place the order, or do it when you collect the car. I did mine when I placed the order to lock in the incentive.

When the GBP was falling against the Euro a few days ago I was wondering how low it'd have to go before VW cancelled my order!
