These folk" who are only considering due to cost savings are in for a shock when the government finally apply taxes of sorts to EVs to make up for the lost fuel duty and emissions tax income, which I suspect will start in a few years on a gradual basis.
Sure when all cars are BEVs they’ll be taxed. This has always been a moving feast. But they haven’t applied these tax changes retrospectively.

Eg the Passat GTE Advance PHEV is £0 VED if it is a 2016 or earlier. For 2017 and newer models the tax is £450.

At some point the least efficient BEVs will pay VED. But that won’t apply to existing BEVs.

However it means your car will depreciate in value instead of holding its value or even appreciating.
I am planning on keeping it 4 years minimum so expected the market would settle by then anyway to be honest.
I've always gone for pre-reg/ex-demo low mileage cars for quite a big saving, but if I do that with the ID.4 then I'd be paying more.

You can normally buy a new car for less that the price of "nearly new"!

I've always had a problem with depreciation statistics because they compare the used price with the list price. But, who pays list? In the past I've managed to get 25-30% off list when buying new. I only managed 5% off my iD4 but in an environment where used ones are selling for above-list that is still pretty good.

Just had an update on my GTX, looks to be delayed by 16 weeks and seems to affect all 4 motion versions.
Had an update from our lease company today that ours (however base spec life not GTX) is now delayed until at least early May. 15 months from ordering.

There are some new ID4's about on Autotrader you might have to make a compromise about colour/spec so maybe worth cancelling old orders and getting something now rather than wait till mid next year.

Mine was 14 months from order (Aug 21) to delivery (Oct 22), so yours sounds about right.

Glad they got their supply chains sorted in that time...

Problem with that is you could be paying a premium over what you ordered it at, so it's usually either stump up more money/monthly payment or wait it out.

Prices for new cars has already started to drop a bit (EV's included) so while prices may be higher than when ordered they may not, worth checking.

When was yours ordered? Mine was supposed to be May (ordered end of August) expected it to be delayed but that sounds like some massive delays.
Mine was April 22, I was told around 52 weeks lead time. I won’t be cancelling since it was locked in at a low price and interest rate, to get the same car will cost nearly 5k more so I will wait.

I can wait for mine, I can wait for mine....
I looked at used and nearly new, but was definitely paying a premium. Honestly I don't mind waiting 14 months for mine, but I'd just really like to know, especially as it may make the difference in me getting a Elmo MG5 in the meantime.
My only worry is my existing vehicle dropping in value too much, I can only afford it to drop so much before it starts causing me a problem.
I didn't lock in especially cheap but did get a decent PCP, so will hang on.

My build date is now estimated as early May (pushed back from end of March)
I found one on Auto Trader, pretty much same specs, a colour I'd be happy with and only £500 more than brand new, however upon enquiring the difference between the PCP just rules it out for me, and that's only from ordering 4 months ago, APR has increased almost 50%

I ordered mine in 2021! I got the PCP locked in because it gave me £500 discount, I intended to pay the finance off the day after collecting the car. But now I’m considering paying the money off my mortgage instead.

As expected, our dealer has just rung to say our estimated build week has slipped from 5 to 18 (which is still earlier than I thought it would be).
He mainly wanted to ask what we were flexible in as they have apparently got quite a few cancelled orders available (I wonder why).

Told him we could flex a little on price and we weren’t fussed about the colour, optional alloy wheels or sports suspension, but other than that we were already a fairly basic spec (pure performance, small battery). Will see what they come back with but I imagine we’ll hurry up and keep waiting.
