I thought this cartoon was a bit harsh.

My experience suggests that all project plans contain nuggets such as "we cross that bridge when we come to it", followed by "kick the can to the end of the project", concluding with "it does not work". My view is that waterfall hides these outcomes until the eleventh hour - at least the others fail before someone's life is on the line.

What are your experiences?

The last four could all apply to Brexit.

Most projects I worked on were probably closest to Agile, since one of Murphy's Law corollaries always applied:
"The closer a project gets to completion the more obvious a need for a complete design change becomes."

The first applies too - how do we get back afterwards?

  1. Project seems screwed.
  2. The problem is waterfall, you need Agile.
  3. Everyone goes on a course
  4. You install Jira
  5. Now you have greater clarity on just how screwed the project is, and all of your company processes.

You install Jira
... alongside MS Project, MS Teams, and other toolkits.
... through sheer confusion everyone continues using MS Excel.

The management still want to see MS Project plans...
Everything MS Project does, MS Excel can do better... ;)
JIRA can be replaced with MS Excel server and lots of terminals... 🤯

Those were the days! For me the philosophy is undermined by paperless offices, hot-desking, and white board booking :(

(Just noticed "backlog/ready" is replaced with "forgotten" in the comic)

All engineers get issued with one Ikea pencil. Per year.

Should make them think more carefully about their design.

@Marli, it sounds like you need to appoint a new Chief Digital Data Computer Network Obsolescence Transformation Officer 👁
