When will ID3 mk2 be launched??

And what do you think the major changes will be (if any)!
Will they wait until solid state batteries are available??

It looked a very capable system on the video, compared to the basic Lane Assist anyway, but the demo was on dual carriageways and junctions.

What kind of roads have you tried it on, and where would you want to use it?

It’s one of the few features I’d want on my 1st, but if it’s no good I can stop wanting it now! 🙂
Just had my first longish trip in my Max and it did steer around bends on single carriageway A roads and motorways. I just kept light touch on the steering wheel - a bit spooky but I got used to quickly. Only works when you've pressed the travel assist button and the lane indicators turn green.

OK, just been and tried this again (on my own this time), to summarise:
  • The Travel Assist button on the steering wheel needs to be pressed every time you want it to be activated (it doesn't seem to remember that it was previously turned on.)
  • Braking, or turning ACC off turns off Travel Assist.
  • Simply 'resuming' the ACC doesn't turn Travel Assist back on.
  • It does now keep the car pretty central in it's lane (as I am used to).
  • With Travel Assist on the steering is noticeably lighter and dare I say a little twitchy (steering is set to 'sport' under the Individual mode), I'm sure I will get used to this but it's just an observation.
So clearly it's quite a bit different to what I'm used to, on my Superb Travel Assist stayed on once it had been activated... unless you physically turned it off (mine had been left on in the 5 ½ years I owned the car).
It also made no difference at all to the weight of the steering, there were no downsides to it being on IMO, which is why I never turned it off.
It made long journeys or commuting home after a really long day really easy and relaxing as the ACC / Travel Assist basically drove you home on autopilot.

Will we use it in the ID.3?
On long journeys yes i'm sure we will... but for it to 'work' (feel OK) you really need to let the car do the steering as much as possible, when you try to steer it it feels far too light IMO.

Judging by other cars that have had mid model refreshes, I would expect the battery cells to be updated to add 20-30% more capacity. There might even be faster charging. Not sure about V2G.
I'd hope they'd add rear speakers as standard and update the firmware a bit, possibly with a larger and faster display.

There seem to be so many ID3 extras, available in other markets, but not the UK. If they added them all to the UK configuration options, it would almost be like a mid range refresh.

I’d have liked the sports seat, look very smart. Available on some trim levels in Ireland.

I’d also have been interested in the surround view camera, again available in Ireland, but oddly only on the Tour 5, not even on the higher spec original Tour.

I can't imagine extra battery capacity coming in unless they find a way of making them lighter, smaller and cheaper. Giving the customer 30% more of one of the most expensive constituent parts of the car for little or no additional money is unlikely to happen. Giving you 30% more battery capacity following a radical price drop in those batteries might.happen. Once these cars have a battery capacity that can crack 400 miles of motorway speeds in Winter, I don't think there'll be much motivation to increase it further.

The e-Golf had a larger battery in the refreshed model. It's all about the economics of the battery and what rival cars are using.
The Leaf, i3 and Zoe have all had bigger batteries fitted to them twice in model refreshes, 3 times in the Leaf 62's case.

If batteries are significantly cheaper in 3-4 years time, and smaller/lighter, its a real possibility, but the last thing the ID3 needs right now is more weight and possibly the loss of that 5th seat as per the Tour with its 77kWh battery.

The 4 seater Tour thing is crazy, especially as they now have a 5 seater version without the sunroof.
Looking at the Zoe, the 22kWh usable battery weighed in at 290Kg, the 41kWh usable battery was 305kg and the 52kWh usable battery weighs 326kg, so a modest 36kg more for 2.3 times more capacity or roughly 10% more weight for the latest battery versus the first. Battery improvements have usually improved the power to weight ratio of the cells.

It's missing quite a lot compared to the 4 seater Tour. Great that its now available as an option (in some countries), but I'm very happy with my 4 seater with all the toys.

Totally agree, just odd that the lower spec 5, has surround view, when the higher spec 4 seater doesn’t

The better seats seem available in some markets already - they are much sportier with integrated headrests. As far as I can tell, they are the same seats that come with the ID4 Max.
Here's pictures of part of the current French configurator for an ID3 Pro Performance. One shows this is part of an option pack. You can delete this option and save the GB equivalent of £1850. Then you get the 2021 ID3 seats ...
