I have a feeling that's the bearing failure that's popped up a few times, mainly in the US... they need to replace a plastic bearing with a brass one, if I remember correctly. How old is the car? I think this has been fixed in later ones?

I think it involves removing half the electrics and stripping down the gearbox completely... if I remember rightly, they'll need your car for at least a few days. Hopefully the My Ampera people will be able to come and collect it and leave you a courtesy car in the meantime...

It does seem to be pretty rare, but still slightly concerning - worth having a trawl of the Volt forums in the US as they'll have all the info on there. Apparently the Ampera/Volt has been the most reliable car ever for GM in terms of engineering, which is probably backed up by the fact this seems to be the only real fault (ignoring sillies and minor inconveniences).

Fingers crossed! Mine seems a little noisy sometimes now on slow-down, so I'm monitoring it carefully...

Like like like :) Can you remind me which dealer you took it to, for future reference?

Thanks Dave - a bit from Warwick for me to use but it's always useful for people to know good dealers.

My local one is Drive Leicester so reasonably close for @Richard Gledhill .
Anyone have experience of them?
They readily changed my EVSE under warranty but I haven't used them for anything else yet.
I'd say they were ok during the sales part, i.e. selling me my car, although they needed pestering to give me a quote (!) but they messed up the invoicing and didn't call me back after a few months like they said they would to check everything was ok. So I'd say fair-to-middling really. I'll probably go to the one in Milton Keynes in April for the first service as they have a much better reputation.

So they got caught out by the "... or equivalent vehicle" clause in every car hire company's Ts & Cs :)

There is an initial high-frequency whine at very low speeds, yes, while the motors are driven in a different mode until a certain speed is reached. No cause for concern.
