Oneof the favoured theories was it’s for pedestrian head impact protection, which makes sense given where it is?

But the Cupra version doesn't have it, and in my opinion does look the better for it:

Just seems a strange choice when the higher bonnet line on the cupra apparently serves the same function with a cleaner look.

I hated the painted black plastic piece of trim on the bonnet of my leaf because it would gather dirt at the point where it and the bonnet met, and it had a very different paint finish (very very soft, swirled up like mad but polished with just a touch of SRP) to the metal panels, so it wasn't friendly for detailing. I would anticipate similar issues with the id3.
