The FE, if I remember correctly, did not have a battery heater, whereas the 4 and 4+ definitely do. That should also help to minimise the range loss in the dead of winter.
Sorry to say that is not the case. The battery heater does not come on while driving and even if it did the heafing process would waste more energy than what you'd gain from the reduced resistance in the battery. Moreover, the heater comes on (only while DC charging) at temps below -10.

if you just press the brake pedal routinely, sometimes you will use the mechanical brakes....
No you won't. Unless you are referring to the last 10 metres before coming to a complete standstill. The regenerative braking capacity is so high, you really need to slam on the brakes for the discs to be involved. In normal driving that just won't happen.

To each their own but apparently the OP is interested in EVs, actually already has one, and has the means to buy a better one. I hope we all realize that every EV that replaces a diesel is one step closer to mitigating the effects of the climate crisis.

With that in mind I personally cannot fathom that someone would consider dieseling on just because once in a blue moon they'd have to stop for 10 minutes on a 200 mile journey in order to put some more electrons in the battery.
