If you do get one, you’d better make sure it has the heat pump for best winter efficiency. The 2019 FE, 2020 4 or the 2021 4+ all have it. I presume you also know that since last weeks PICG grant shuffle the cost new is now virtually £40k. No grant available any more on the 4+ sadly. Peter.

Sorry to say that is not the case. The battery heater does not come on while driving and even if it did the heafing process would waste more energy than what you'd gain from the reduced resistance in the battery. Moreover, the heater comes on (only while DC charging) at temps below -10.
I was just about to give this post my seal of approval with a like, but then came that last sentence. I’ve seen the battery heater come on whilst D.C. charging at battery temperature just below 10°C. The charging was quite slow until the battery heated up which took maybe 20 minutes or more. AFAIK, this is the only situation in which it actually comes on. It definitely does not need to be down to -10 for it to come on when rapid charging.

You must drive like a loon to get it down to 2.9m/Kwh. Dont you have your regeneration braking turned on?
What are you on about here? You cannot turn regenerative braking off!
The only way is to drop into N and I certainly hope you are not doing that too often!

True that the initial part of brake travel does do regen - but many can't modulate it to get max regen without using friction brakes which is hugely wasteful. I rarely touch the brake pedal on drives - maybe once in last 3 weeks?? Dont like thinking any of that energy will go into waste heat.
I’m sorry but some of the things you are saying are totally misleading.
You absolutely cannot turn of regenerative braking (except by using N). What you are talking about with the right paddle is affecting the coasting regeneration which is a completely different thing.

You make it sound like normal use of the brake pedal wastes lots of energy with the disc brakes. That is just nonsense. Almost all of the normal foot braking is accomplished just by regeneration. That is why it is quite difficult to clean away the surface rust on the discs. They are virtually unused unless you brake very hard and/or at high speeds.

To say using the foot brake is “hugely wasteful“ is absolute nonsense. The car has been designed for great efficiency without any of your ridiculous proposed special driving techniques.
Sorry to be so blunt but it needs to be said.
Cheers Peter

@Bill N Sorry Bill but on this one comment I can’t agree that Eniro isn’t a fun drive. I find it incredibly fun to drive. In fact it’s the drive over and above everything else that really does it for me. Despite my own quite long list of negatives, it still puts a big smile on my face every time I drive it. With respect I see that you don’t drive the Eniro yourself, so are you really in the position to make such a comment? I know your car is loosely similar but it’s not the same by any means. Cheers Peter.
