Hi,
I'm a newbie so please be nice if my etiquette is not quite right. I have just ordered a Nissan Leaf. I have a Rolec Type 2 tethered charger which was installed under the grant scheme and my ignorance and lack of research means I have the wrong unit. What are my options? Don't really want to spend £500 on a new charger. I notice that Rolec have tethered cables and sockets available in their catalogue but am unable to get a price or information as to whether a sparky will be able to change it.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

I think there was some discussion on Leaftalk about this - @Mike Schooling may be able to make up an adaptor. Alternatively you may need to find a way of changing the lead which should be cheaper than getting a new charger.

Yes, we came out with about £200 for the parts unfortunately. Might be cheaper the more people buy though - I think we have a handful interested over on leaftalk

Welcome to Speak EV. Who installed your charger? If it was British Gas it might be worth giving them a call to see if they can help at all?

It was a local installer, I've just had him out for another issue with the breaker which was installed and he has agreed to replace the cable with a type 1. I did ask the lads who installed it before they started if it was a the correct cable for the leaf and they said it was. Let hope he does what he promised.

If you told them it was for a Leaf then they are legally obliged to replace the cable for free

Its a problem more and more people will encounter so if anyone does have a solution I would be interested. On an unrelated note, what is everyone's opinion on the best charging networks?

Solution would be to install a 'type 2' socket so anyone could use it if they bring their lead.

General consensus on here about charging networks are Ecotricity's Electric highway for their rapid (currently) free to use network
and
ZCW's Zeronet for their network of RFID card free, fast charging network. the use of this is normally free but your expected to use the location's service.

I believe these are the only national charging networks depending on your location someone on here will be able to provide you with more information on what is available locally

I think there is also a thread on here somewhere with a list of all networks I will see If i can dig it out or someone my bet me to it

Leaf got delivered on Friday on an unbelievable deal over 2 years. Sparky stuck to his word and all is well. The leaf is amazing
