Chargers to become cheaper overnight

Email from Tesla just now... It appears some Tesla supercharger locations are starting a cheaper charging tariff for overnight. Good for saving a bit of money.. not so good for people that might not feel safe charging at 2am!!

It's being started in selected locations potentially being rolled out to more as and when Tesla sees fit.

I know there's still a big issue with safety fears, but it's nice they're doing a cheaper rate. Details on prices most likely on Tesla's site at whichever SC it will apply to.

It depends on the site itself. If the site is well-lit and has CCTV or people nearby, it's far better than some charging locations I've used at night (down the end of a dark lane at some industrial estate with rubbish in the bushes and so on).

If you've ever had a bad experience of being jumped on by baseball-bat wielding thugs jumping out of the bushes at night, you'll know what I mean. I have, and that's another story.

About time, good news for load spreading and for those without home charging facilities. Spreading the load/times of use saves adding more chargers and network cables etc. It makes much better use of a capital resource.

As for safety, it just happens to be true that most things can happen when darkness falls and fewer people are around. Some, not all, women feel more vulnerable. I don’t drive a Tesla and haven’t used a supercharger facility, if they are well lit and have security cameras they might be a lower risk for charging?

Contrary to common perception, most crime at night happens in well lit areas. Where lighting had been removed it's often been noted that crime rates fall. Criminals apparently don't like hiding in the dark, because it makes it rather difficult to identify a victim and also to see what they are doing to carry out a mugging or whatever.

The issue with the dark is you can't see what is around so well. This makes the animal instinct in us kick in yo make us fearful and alert. A lot of predators use the night to hunt so it's in our DNA to be cautious. Hence why people feel safer in a lit area as you can see your surrounds and anything approaching you
