Europe EV sales are up by 30%. However, Tesla are done by another 22%

"The latest automotive numbers in Europe were released for August, confirming that Tesla’s decline is continuing, but it has slowed down, with the company “only” being down 22%.
However, the most worrying part for Tesla is that it is happening while battery-electric vehicle sales were up 30% last month."

Arguably there isn't much connection between the vehicle sales numbers and the stock price since most of the company's value is supposed to be in future robotaxis and software and robots, according to Elon, some analysts that own Tesla stock, and some others.

Personally I don't buy it and think the stock is overvalued, but that seems to be the argument.

A very unscientific observation in Hants over the last week or so has me thinking that there are a lot of BEVs in this part of the world. In Southampton earlier this week there were 4 parked in a line of 8 outside John Lewis and that might just prove that EV drivers shop in John Lewis or Matalan whose door was closer but whereas 12 months ago it was common to see BEVs in twos in a line of traffic they are now commonly seen in threes. Is this happening elsewhere in the UK? Newer cars tend to do more mileage but in the middle of the week you wouldn't expect to see them in shopping area car parks? Of course the new registration mark might have numbers boosted, no favourite brand but there might me a few more Teslas around than others, but plenty of Kias, Hyundais, MGs and Skodas. Do we have stats by region?

One thing I've noticed is the hugely increased numbers of EV in my part of Scotland (Fife/Lothian/Edinburgh) few years back you can hardly see any. They were novelty....now, they are everywhere.
In Morrisons car park in St Andrews sometimes there are more EV than ICE cars. The first time I've noticed that I had to double check 🤣

Probably 80% of my wife close girlfriends have moved to EV as well. So the EV revolution is in a full swing in east of Scotland

Just went and reminded myself of the Trump/Musk timeline

July 2024 – tweeted support

October 2024 (approx) – Musk strong campaigning for Trump

January 2025 - Nazi salute

May/June 2025 - breakup

We might expect that at some point from July 2024 to January 2025 his actions started hurting Tesla's sales.

And so at some point between now and January 2026 the sales figures (% vs same month 12 months before) ought to start to stabilize (if the Trump association and Nazi salute are the main reason for decline).

A table of total sales in EU or Europe for every month from January 2024 onwards would make it clearer.

They’re definitely more common, I recently went away with a group of friends, 5 cars, 3 were EVs, none were Tesla. Some friends and family just don’t want to get into the EV thing yet or don’t spend a lot in cars. If you’re the type of person who buys a used car for £10-15k your choice is relatively limited. But many others are seriously looking at them when they next change. My nephews girlfriend is typical, she was asking me about them with genuine interest and for her the idea of 3p a mile commute and waking up to a full tank really appealed and for long trips they’d use his car. 100% EV households might take a little longer to come about.

As for Tesla and Musk, Tesla sales last year were down in 2023 so the issues started much earlier, I’ve not looked into the numbers, they may not even be available, but I suspect the highland m3 stalkless cars didn’t sell as well as the outgoing model and then some held out for the juniper y, and then just as that was being released we had Musk going all Tommy Robinson putting people off. These things are all relative, they still sell a lot, just not as many,

A few years ago I did some research and a thread https://www.speakev.com/threads/women-and-evs.157352/ and women were buying about 30% or 1/3 of the EVs even though they were buying half of all the cars.

Women being risk averse was one reason.

One comment on the thread was "as a woman on this forum .... I must admit that my first attempt at solo public charging took place in a shady, odd, under the railway bridge location in London. I did feel a frisson of fear and wondered if I was seriously at risk. So I drove on to a nice leafy safer location ........ So I think safety issues for women could be serious."

But surely it has to get to nearer 50/50 at some point. Perhaps the above comments are evidence that this is already happening.
