Also works wirelessly with both if you use an adaptor. I had Carlinkit 5, although I hear the Carlinkit mini also works well, and there are others. About £20 these days, worked well 95% of the time.

 

I bought one for £12 for my van, which has wired but not wireless CarPlay. Then another for my car, after I changed my phone (from an iPhone 15, to an iPhone 15… this time without a broken screen) and it failed to connect no matter what I tried. £8 this time, and again it works perfectly.

 

Even though I got a wireless adaptor, wireless Android Auto isn't ideal.

For short runs, sure. For longer runs, cable is preferred. You need to keep the phone charged anyway (wireless AA drains the battery). Putting the phone on a wireless charger while running wireless AA at the same time will make the phone run very hot so is not an option either if you care about battery life.
