This sounds similar to a problem i had with my Rolec charger which has the type 2 socket on the front.

It worked without issue with my Nissan Leaf using the Nissan supplied cable.

However, when i received my IPace the Jaguar supplied cable didn't work. I disassembled the charge point so that the socket was in free space and the cable worked and the car charged. When i looked at the mechanical fixing of the socket to the enclosure there is quite a bit of padding and gaskets due to the contours of the case and the size of the connector. I removed one of the gaskets which was a good mm thick and re-assembled and all is well. I'll use sealant to ensure a waterproof interface.

Ultimately the CP or PP pin wasnt able to make contact and initiate the charge.
