IONIQ battery warranty - 70% for 8 years/125k miles!

I'm trying to get something official about this, but I tweeted Hyundai asking about the battery warranty. Here's the conversation so far:

@DanTup Where can I find info on the battery warranty for electric Ioniq? What % battery capacity do you guarantee over what period?
@Hyundai_UK Hi, the battery warranty on IONIQ is 8 years 125,000 miles. Any issues have to be diagnosed by your dealership, thanks
@DanTup Sure, but where can I get details on what's covered? Eg. Degradation? Other manufacturers cover this in the brochure, can't find yours
@Hyundai_UK Hi, we do have a HV battery degradation limit of 70% State of Health, thank you

70% for 8 years seems crazy-good to me, so I hope this turns out to be the case. I'll post back if/when I get something more official than a tweet

It's the industry norm for non-leased or Tesla batteries.

BMW UK are also pretty confident of maintaining 70% capacity well beyond 8years

125,000 miles is not much given we are told that EV should last a long longer then normal engines.

Seems you're right! For some reason I thought in the ZOE brochure it said 3 years for the owned battery, but I just checked again and it says 66% for 8 years. I guess that's good news all around

Still, it's not bad for a standard warranty. Some manufacturers are still only covering a few years, so 8yrs up to 125k doesn't seem too bad. As long as you know what you're paying for, you can make the decision about whether it's a good buy

In the Souls handbook it says 7 years 100000 miles but don't remember if a degradation % is mentioned. Will have to look into that.

GM Volt/Ampera...

Launched in 2010...

8 year and 100,000 mile battery warranty.

Launched in 2010 [LHD] (did I mention that already).

.... Gee.... **ing fantastic progress in the world of electric cars in the last 6 years!!.........

(PS - not a single reported incidence of a Volt/Ampera battery pack requiring replacement since 2010, and counting, due to degradation)

LEAF British-made battery is warranted for 8 years or 100000 miles, 75% degradation.

That is the 30kWh battery, rather than the 24kWh.

I may be somewhat behind the curve here but I thought that Sunderland produced the 24kWh pack and was tooling up to produce the new model battery pack, with the 30kWh pack being made in Smyrna

Also, the Ampera 8 year warranty covers all the "EV" components, not just the battery like everyone else.

The original Zoe 'i' was a 5 year battery warranty (70%), the ZE40 'i' has the 8 year warranty (66%)

Maybe that's what I thought it was lower then, from the original ZOE brochure.

Good to see them improving - seems fair given the batteries seem to be lasting longer than people suggested they would!
