Lamppost chargers, fitting at flats - any experiences?

Does anyone have any experience of getting lamppost chargers fitted in a communal parking area at a block of flats?

The property is a converted mill building, which is both Grade 2 listed and in a conservation area. The local council recently went on the warpath about satelite dishes that have been there 20 years - so affixing to the building is not an option.

Additionally, our parking space is away from our building and would require the drive to be dug up - so not really a cost effective option.

We currently use public charging which is relatively expensive and inconveniently located.

However - there is a visitor car park that has two conveniently placed lampposts. Leading me to think a charger could be fitted on each of those (pending the opinion of the site sparky).

I have spoken with the management company (of the 50 properties) and they would be happy to have lamppost chargers fitted if I do the leg-work.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience in this, or whether I'm setting myself up for a world of pain!

TIA :)

Welcome to the forum.

I think that before you spend any time on this, the sentence above points to the first hurdle to be addressed. To be effective, both of those posts would need to have sufficient power to provide 7kW to each proposed charge point. And if they are just cabled with sufficient to run lamps, it's unlikely to be enough. Otherwise, the power to each EV may be very low, meaning that very lengthy charge times would be needed. Which then leads on to problems of car congestion when a charge session is very long.

Once you have that information, there may be options available.

There's probably not capacity on the cables for the lights if they are run off a distribution board on site(unless they are pre led where the cable may have been sized for more power).

Depending on how the supplies are run to the flats you may be able to get a duct run from a parking space to an electrical room and connected to your supply there.
