Hi everyone,
I recently emailed Morrisons to find out if they were planning on putting any charge points in my local morrisons... they kindly emailed me a list of the morrisons with charge points, so I thought I'd share.

I took a trip to Morrisons in Cwmbran today and found that they do not have a charge point. Asked in store and they confirmed this

I also reported it to Morissons Head Office, who after a while said their maintenance teams will look into it, and that I should probably report problems with the charge points to Elektromotive.. So, belt and braces, the on-site management, head office, and their charge point supplier are all aware of the problem now. Maybe it might get fixed?
Maybe it will get properly marked up and turned into an official CYC post, like other Morrisons branches?
Update: Morrisons Houghton Regis has one working point. I tried two other outlets. Still with a broken cover, but I got a charge from the left hand post, rear outlet, with my CYC card. Didn't show up as a transaction, so it's not an official CYC post.

When I was charging, the staff who were smoking in the smoking area (which is right next to these points) said they'd never seen anyone use it before.
  • They are tucked away at the far end of the side of the store, away from the entrance, you'd only notice them if you drive to the extremities of their car park - but at least it means they're never ICEd
  • it isn't on the National Chargepoint Registry data, so this means it won't show up on most online maps, or car satnavs. (I've added it to Openchargemap)
  • It's not mentioned on the store information on Morrisons store finder part of their web site.
  • There is no usage information on the posts, so it's only my past experience that taught me to try CYC on random Elektromotive posts.
  • They have been vandalised, and mostly don't work.

So, in terms of murky backwaters of public charging infrastructure, it's nearly got a sign on it saying "beware of the leopard".

There are definitely four at the Eastbourne Morrisons, although two bays were occupied by IC cars, even though the car park was half empty. If the blue light means they are working, they are working.
They are shown on Plugshare but not Zap Map.

Morrison's in Wells definitely has a charge point - but the Plugshare map is seriously outdated as it doesn't show the new superstore and petrol station on Strawberry Way. I'm going to test it this Friday.

Update on Wells Morrison's charge point. The superstore is off the Wells end of the A371 (Strawberry Way on the Google map also now called East Somerset Way). Enter the car park and turn left just before the store building. Drive to the end and turn left and the charge point is then on your right, clearly marked bay for EV's. It's CYC and operational.

Update on Wells Morrison's charge point. ...
It's CYC and operational.
It's not officially CYC, because it doesn't show on their maps, it's probably just accepting CYC cards by accident of the fact that that's the factory default at the Elektromotive factory - CYC app won't be possible because it's not properly registered with CYC. The installers or Morrison's haven't got around to registering it with CYC.

Morrisons Weybridge has two points. They are on plug share. Under cover and the store has a good cafe. What more could you want?
I'd spotted these - which card do you need to initiate the charge, and how much do they cost to use? I asked at the customer service desk and they didn't know.

Morrisons Weybridge is officially on Charge your Car. As such, the posts should have Charge your Car stickers on them, complete with support phone numbers and the like.

That would be useful, but wasn't the case when I was there a few weeks ago. The staff at customer service (who checked with a manager) reckoned you should just plug in and it would start working. I wasn't depending on it, was just looking out of curiosity.

I used Morrisons at meadowhead in Sheffield. 4 posts. 1 tag for the whole store to activate them. Most ice'd.

For the tag you pay ÂŁ20 deposit. I did so, took the tag back.

Little did I know that I would need the tag to deactivate. I just pulled the plug from the car. It asked for the tag but I didn't have it and then after 2 mins it reset itself and released my plug. Is this normal, Is it okay to do that?

Ps only had my car 6 days. Still learning

This is word for word what the instructions say.

To disconnect: remove plug from vehicle first then remove the plug from the charging point (this allows time for the lock to disengage in the charging socket)

For charge points that don't need authorization, then remove from the car first, then post.
For charge points that need authentication, end the session properly on the charge point first using your authorisation (card, app, phone, etc), then disconnect, normally in either order, but some charge points insist on unplugging the car first then post.

Some charge points will refuse to release your cable unless things are ended properly, and there's people who hack their cables so they can pull them at any time, but that can leave the charge point in faulty state for the next user. This is a software problem on the charge points.

Aldi are opening a new store in Eastbourne early next year, so I've emailed them about the possibility of some charging points. They can only say no. Although with only 110 spaces, I can see them being ICEd up.
