Micra battery type

Seriously considering the new Micra.
I see that the 40kw is LFP and the 52 is NMC.
Now, I don't really need the 52 for my use, but I fancy the evolve model which only comes in the larger battery.
My dilemma is, the 40 in advance trim gives me everything I need for 3.5k cheaper if I go for the base colour.
I'm a tight arse so this appeals.
Having read a bit about the different types of battery, it seems to me getting the 40 and charging it to 100% every time will basically give me the same range as charging the 52 to 80%.
Not bothered about the extra power in the 52kw battery.
What does the hive mind reckon?- is my thinking correct with the different battery types, and is my internet search giving accurate assumptions in that LFP is worse in winter and less available power vs. weight etc, but long term they are likely to last better than an NMC.
Thanks all.

Get a red one with the black roof.
The other colours don't look as good.
A few grand extra on the bigger battery model might save that one time you might have needed it becoming a nightmare.

It's just a few quid difference.

Thanks both
I had considered all of your points.
I would go with light blue with grey roof- bizarrely you can have that on advance but only with a black roof on evolve.
Do like the red.
If the evolve had a 360 camera that would have swayed me I think.
But I'm a proper tight wad.
Am I right in thinking the smaller LFP will happily charge to 100% no issues?

That is Tesla's recommendation. It would likely be the same, but I would advice look into Renault/Nissan manual for their recommendation.

I would like to join you having a rant about highest spec being locked away by battery capacity.

I'm looking around for my wife's Leaf 24 replacement, range is non-issue but she wants all the heated stuff + 360 camera. The highest spec for MG4 trophy, Renault 5 and Nissan Micra are all lock behind behind bigger battery. It's not only bad for environment and efficiency, it is also stupid for them because it leaves profit on the table. In your case, you did not spend more for the higher spec.

I'm aware that this must be out of your scope right now but Smart #1 are running promotion on new cars. £4500 off using some incentives.
If you go for "used" ex demo in a Premium spec you get everything. Heated seats and steering wheel, HUD, excellent 16 speakers system, 61kWh useable battery, 360 camera, self park (really, really good) lane assist, speed recognition and the list goes on and on.
Just a thought 🤔

Tbh the mid spec is fine for me- top spec just gives two tone colour "free", which if you want metallic and colour roof adds £1300 to mid spec.
So you're then paying around a grand more for heated seats and wheel (don't use them in my ID3), nicer trim, different alloys and propilot, so I'm not entirely sure that's worth the extra grand. Unless I'm missing something.
360 camera I would happily have paid extra for and can't for the life me figure out why it isn't there.
I suppose you'll see half that back at trade in, so not bad if kept a while.
Discounts are much higher than R5 currently, must be a reason for that so maybe they haven't taken many orders; it's been on sale a month so they may be worried people are just buying the 5.
Which in turn is going to translate to low residuals vs. the 5.

Indeed. Being a small city car is surely more in need of 360 view.

R5 doesn't have it either, I guess Nissan didn't want to put in the money to fit it during re-skin.

If there is a top trim small LFP battery Micra with 360 camera, it is highly likely we would have ordered one. Currently considering covid era 40 kWh Leaf Tekna for £8-10k.

LFP is more tolerant than NMC of being left in a 100% state of charge. Also the GOM calibration needs periodic charging to 100% as the voltage is very constant with state of charge from about 10% to 90% so can't be used a a SoC indicator, so the GOM relies on coulomb counting, which can drift with time.
If you're concerned about long trips and range, check fthe actual range and charging speeds too. LFP slows down at high SoC just like NMC, but the two types might not be the same in that respect.

I would very rarely, if ever, fast charge, so speeds are not a concern.
I was more toying with the idea that charging a 40 to 100% gives a similar actual range to charging a 52 to the recommended 80%.
Given that I don't need the range, it seems silly to pay extra for the larger battery. (Although I take the point this will be worth more at trade in).
My use case would be charge the 40 to 100% every 5 or 6 days, so we're only talking 65 or so cycles a year.
The furthest we go we did the other day in our (probably very slightly degraded) id3 58, using 63% from 100% and 140 miles, 4.4m/kw/h on the trip-easily doable from a 40kw battery and lighter car I would think..
I'm swaying towards the 52 battery and highest spec, but the potential hardiness of the LFP in the 40 and the cheaper lower spec, but in reality ok for me, also appeals.
I'd likely talk myself out of a free one lol.

I think that answers your question!
And yes, you can charge to 100% with impunity, especially if you typically do it overnight and are going to use it in the morning.

I am also considering the Micra 52kW Advance in Full Red with the £500 Cold Pack option ( Heated seats )
But may now look at the smaller battery in regards to battery chemistry.

Having said that I remember when I had a ZE 50kW loaner when my Ze40 was being repaired the extra range was impressive

I don't use the car every day but do charge to 100% a few days a week on longer trips.

Plus for me in a non charging CCS Zoe anything with CCS would be great 👍 👍

If you spec the evolve on new car discount vs. an advance if full red you'll only be paying around £750 more and you'll get the black roof as well as the heated seats and other goodies.
I actually think it makes a lot of sense to just get the free colour if you're going with the smaller battery and advance trim.
If you want the free colour but a with a black roof it'll cost £1395 just for adding the black roof!!
If you want metallic and black roof the evolve makes more sense.
