Hi, I’m new to the forum, having placed an order for a Niro EV 4 on 13th Sept. Just checked the spec sheets on the Kia uk website and it now states the heat pump is standard on all the EV models! Hope I’m reading this right (possibly added to compensate for binning the HK audio system?), but have e-mailed my dealer for confirmation that if it is correct I’ll get it included on my build at no extra cost.

Hi not sure which site you are looking at but I just had a look and it still seems to be showing the option of with or without the heat pump for £900. I bought my level 4 with because certainly on the last model it improved the residual value. I also have experienced some wintery conditions and along with a good set of all weather tyres worked well for me for 3 years. But it is down to personal need/ preferences / finance. With or without it is still a great car. I may be alone but I wasn’t too fussed about the HK which I have got on mine. But again might help residuals

I think you are mistaken…but welcome to the forum if you decide to stick around👍

I did check again and the HP is “ticked” as standard (so is the V2L adapter for all EV’s), but these spec sheets seem a bit of a mess - according to them, the EV 4 doesn’t have a rear armrest or a 6 speaker audio system! I decided that £900 wasn’t worth it for my use, but if they are giving it away free, I’ll have it! Not heard back from dealer yet, so I’ll have to wait and see.

The PDF is usually a more accurate reflection of the actual specifications. But Kia has messed up the website at present and you only get the correct link to the PDF from the Specification page for the Niro EV, but not if you do so via the Build page.

The latest version is the 1st August release, to cover the removal of HK audio. That specifies the correct Heat Pump options. The columns are for 2, 3 and 4 models respectively.

Fair enough, I suspected a web site error.

This for the old e-niro

the new Niro ev might be different as I don’t think e-Niro had battery scavenging. That might be a 2 edge sword though as reports it was too aggressive on the ev6 and kept the battery cold, but probably a software update to balance that better.

I ordered a niro ev 4 without heat pump last week. Based on that you tube clip and keeping it simple.

As well as the value of its effect on efficiency and living with the car the other unknown is the impact on residual values which isn't considered.

I have just recently got delivery of my niro 4 ev with heat pump. How does one tell if the car has a heat pump or not. For the people who bought the niro 4 ev with heat pump / without heat pump how much did you guys pay and how long were your lead times. Just want to make sure I did get bumped by my dealer.

IIRC the list price extra when I ordered mine in May22 was ÂŁ900
( for what its worth, I came from a previous model eNiro with no heat pump….I honestly cant tell the difference)

I just sold mine to a Kia dealer. During the inspection the chap from the dealer said "This may sound stupid but how do I know if your car has a heat pump?" Seemingly nobody knows :)

We opened the bonnet and I pointed vaguely to a box that had some hefty orange cables attached to it and told him it was probably that. I did have my original invoice to prove I'd paid for one but that doesn't prove I had one.

Yh I'm in the same boat can't tell if it has it or not. It does appear in the vin as heat pump and invoice that's all have to go on it. What the reason for selling by the way did you loose money or manage to break even. I know the cost of electricity these days are horrendous and the public charger price is extortionate. I did not equate the cost of home charger installer in the finances so I am stuck with 3 pin charger for now.

Found this post posted in another thread which explains what to look for:

The heat pump my extend range and battery life, so I want it. I wonder how much heat EVs with heat pumps are currently extracting from ICE cars on the road? Sort of borrowing their gasoline heat. Will there be a noticeable difference when most vehicles are EV?

ICE cars generate a huge amount of heat. EVs don't, so the air around busy roads will be cooler when most vehicles are EV. The effect of heat pumps vs resistive heating is negligible compared with that.

First you need to consider the additional cost of adding a heat pump. Then work out how much you will save. The ROI is not good.
