I just got notification via email that my free over air updates are over and it's now £80 for 2 more if I choose.

Question can I just update myself via usb still for free? As id be tempted to do that at my leisure

Thanks 👍

Yes. Needs a decent sized stick. I use 32GB. Off the top of my head 16GB is not enough. There's a Windows desktop app to download the update and copy to USB.

Edit: I just started the download. It is about 24GB. It seems the Windows app downloads an archive that is unpacked so you need around 46GB disk space on PC.

From the release notes it seems we get Google search for places, which I think will be a big improvement (there are a lot of rural places I visit that are in Google Maps but not the existing nav search).

I did the update but the search seems just as bad as before. Hopefully it just has to be "activated" following the software update and will work soon.
That is what I gathered from the announcement. If you do a search after the update, it still shows ´powered by Here.´ Now I have a soft spot for Here, since it allowed me to navigate through California with all the maps I needed offline. But it cannot hold a candle to Google Maps when it comes to POI searches.
