OVO Charge Anytime…not now anytime?

I had a home charger installed last month, working with OVO Charge Anytime. All has worked well for the last month, with the 7p/kWh tariff charging starting whenever it’s plugged in until its charged to the percentage I want.

However since the beginning of this week, this no longer happens, with almost no charging starting during the day, even late in the evening, and only starting in the small hours of the morning.

Not sure if the more autumnal weather means less ‘green’ energy is now available during the day, and I can only charge at night now, with the cheap rate?

Maybe this is not an issue with a BEV with a range of several hundred miles, but I have a PHEV with a range of 70 miles, so if I use up the battery during the day, then I’ve no option to recharge before going out again in the evening, without using the ‘urgent’ charge option and paying full whack.

Anyone have longer experience with OVO Charge Anytime and able to comment of this change? Maybe it depends whether you’re in a city or a rural area?

I've been on OVO Anytime for 6 months and in the last two sessions this week the car has charged beyond the set schedule and immediately from the moment of plugin mid evening, basically peak time. The app is showing that I have received the discount for these sessions, so I don't know what's going on. The only reason I can imagine is that there's been some sort of glitch in their systems as they are in the process of switching from the Charge Anytime app to the OVO Charge app. Both apps are working and reporting correctly.

Ohme let everyone down by failing to meet OVOs requirements.
Depending on the vehicle there would have been 2 ways to configure things.
With Ohme now dropped I guess OVO might have implemented a workaround.
Essentially OVO needs data to differentiate between imported power and solar generated power. It's possible that they are now allowing you to charge when the sun is definitely not shining (a suggestion I made to them several years ago).

If your car is compatible then you might need to follow their setup guide to get daytime charging again but of course that won't be allowed if you have solar panels.

Sorry, I couldn't say. I've been around this neck of the woods a fair time and have a "dumb" charger, so OVO talk directly to the Born and turn the charge on/off from the car.
There is a link to the FAQ site from the Anytime app and the 3rd question is "What do I need to do if I currently use the Charge Anytime app and want to switch and start using OVO Charge".
I had the OVO charge app already and the car was already there when I next updated OVO Charge.

Update: I called OVO, and they suggested altering the charge by time on the OVO Charge app (on the Charge Anytime app, it was always in the 22:30-07:30 range).

I tried this, setting a time an hour ahead, and it charged ok once plugged in.

So great that it now works, but annoying that there is now this extra step.

With the Charge Anytime app, as I have the scheduled charging switched off in the car, it always started charging instantly and for however long I needed it the moment I plugged it in.

Whereas in the OVO Charge app, I have to additionally keep charging the charge by time before I plug it in, estimating when it’ll be at the SOC I want, so it starts immediately and doesn’t wait. When you’re charging at different times of the day depending on schedule, it’s a bit of an annoyance.

I’ve suggested to them the app be updated to remove this added hurdle of constantly needing to charge the charge by time for ad hoc charging.

When I used Charge Anytime with the Charge Anytime app I did pretty much the same as you're now having to do.

I didn't have a set time of charging so would plug in sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon.

The process was to look at the cars SoC, decide how long it might take to get to the SoC I needed add maybe 15 or 20 minutes and make that my depart time.
I then had the extra steps of setting up my chargepoint app depending on if it was my Ohme Go or my Wallbox Pulsar Plus, plugging in and gawping at the app muttering because it took a minute or so to start.
If I worked everything out correctly it would usually start quickly enough.
I didn't need it to start straight away but wanted to know where I stood.

The Charge Anytime app knew the battery percentage the car already had and might start charging then stop for a while if I was generous with the timescale, it's actually all working to spec and them controlling when to charge is the reason they are giving the discount.

It sounds like the newer app defaults to charging over night, for many people that would be fine but for those who need a daytime charge having to go into settings every time would be a PITA.

If you join the OVO forum you can open up a thread or join an existing one about the new app and maybe push for a tick box to be added to the app to keep your time changes permanent until you alter them manually.

I always found the old app a bit flakey, mainly it was very laggy when a status had changed which was much worse for those of us who didn't just set it and leave it alone.
Hopefully the new app will be a massive improvement.
