Rolec blue flashing light - won't charge

Hi all,

I came home this evening ready to plug in (Rolec wall charger with separate cable) and noticed instead of a steady blue light, the light was flashing blue. I plugged in but the car failed to start charging, however the charger light changed to steady blue. In fact the blue flashing changes to steady blue when I plug the lead in to the charger without plugging into the car. Since I usually leave the lead plugged in (only removed it last 2 days due to building work on my drive) I've only ever seen a steady blue light. Does flashing blue mean no lead?

Either way, my car won't charge. The 3 pin charger works fine. I've contacted ChargedEV.co.uk who I got it from about the issue.

Does anyone know what flashing blue means? I'm sure I had a manual with the box but can't seem to find it now.

Thanks,
Stu

I think it is the same as on the mainpine and it means ready to negotiate current setting/start charging, looking for a vehicle to be connected. If plugging an open ended cable into it makes it go solid blue, that tells me you have a cable which was designed to make the car unnecessary so it just has a resistor in the plug to limit the current, but allows cars with non-compliant onboard chargers like the early iMiev and some home built cars. Can you borrow a different cable to test it.

I mustn't have noticed the flashing before. I've never had it unplugged before yesterda. Maybe it's the cable. I'm asking on the UK Leaf Facebook page if there's someone near me I can borrow a cable from. I don't fancy spending another ÂŁ130 on a cable just to see if it's faulty.

Are you close to a dealer / Asda / similar? They might have a charge point that you can test your cable in. Or you could politely ask a dealer to lend you a cable to test your charge point (assuming car is under warranty / good faith from dealer)

That suggest vehicle is set for delayed charging, sold blue means connected and waiting for request from vehicle.

@MrMaxP youve probably tried this but, unplug and reset the unit wait for it to cycle back to flashing blue. The with cable not connected to car make sure it's properly seated, connect to car. The only time I have had problems like you desricbed is when the controller got confused in the charger, and the second was when I hadn't put the socket in properly.

I'll try resetting again and check the charge timer. However, since it's charging fine with the brick charger I guess it's not that. It'll have to wait till tomorrow though, I need a full charge for work tomorrow and there's at least 6 hours left to go on the brick :)

Had a similar problem with one of the ZCW units at Cheese & Grain in Frome last year. I think that one uses a Mainpine controller. Tried all the usual things like shutting off the timer and pressing the override. No Joy.

It connected after I had pressed the start button in the Leaf twice without my foot on the brake then plugged in. It was like the charger did not realise the car was there until the car was "alive".

Sorry I cannot remember which end of the cable I plugged in first and it may have just been a coincidence. I was trying everything that morning.
