Just looked at the DOT data for new registrations in Q3 2019 (July to September 2019) and found this;

All Tesla model 3 new registrations Q3 2019 = 5352

All Audi A4 new registrations Q3 2019 =
3427

And the Audi A4 has several body types, Tesla just the saloon. If we just compared A4 Saloons to Tesla M3 it would be a bloodbath.

BMW and Merc still ahead. Lets see what Q4 Brings

BMW 3 Series all models Q3 2019 = 6912

Merc C Class all models Q3 2019 = 6735.

Not a bad start.

I suspect a lot of people who are getting a Model 3 probably didn't have a saloon before it and many buyers didn't drive a premium brand. For a high percentage I suspect the saloon aspect of the car is a compromise for the other benefits vs (say) a Nissan Leaf.

With BIK change, from Q1 we may see more Model 3 go to company car drivers which could shift sales from other premium brands more. 2020 will be interesting!

Proddick is right, it will be the sales for delivery to company car drivers early this year and whether there is a drop in the ice alternatives that will be really interesting, but that data isn't yet available. The data that is available reflects 3 years of pent up demand, will it continue or soften, I'd bet on it continuing as I expect the bik changes to really help Tesla (most as they actually have cars to sell) and all other bev manufacturers to a lesser extent(although they'll probably sell all 10 that they make). I base this on what I'm observing at work, for example my bosses boss has an etron coming soon, he chose an ev due to the tax advantages after quizzing me thoroughly about my Kona. He was actually very close to choosing a model3 performance but decided he liked the etron more (currently he has an A6 estate I think he just felt more comfortable sticking with audi).
