Car directed me to charge at Newark this morning. Rolled my eyes, great, into and out of Newark right in the busiest period.
Then I noticed it wasn't the Northgate Retail Park but the Applegreen service area on the A1.
Sime of the Applegreen chargers have been removed and replaced with Tesla chargers. What's interesting is that they are V3, and seem to have been recycled from elsewhere.
Slight disappointment that the Pret has gone from inside the service area.

The Northgate site is now "temporarily closed". When I used it a few weeks ago 3 of the steaks had no power.

Wonder if they've moved down the road because of the persistent cake theft issues at the retail park.

There's people stealing cakes from people's cars? Must be pre-planed theft, have to know their family member's birthdays.
;)

The new location is much better, shame about charging for other EV's. I wonder why haven't Tesla have installed V4 and allowed access for all.

I thought regulations have changed so that newly installed rapids had to be open to all (by contactless)? Or perhaps the recycling of older Tesla chargers and/or the retention of token Applegreen charging are ways to avoid this regulation?

Tesla of course want to restrict access to the best charging sites for their vehicles as a USP for buying Tesla. I don't like these anti-competitive practices as it just raises prices for all in the long run, especially on sites next to major roads where the value is provided free by the taxpayer (by spending xxx billion on building the A1 etc).

Fortunately there are good alternatives nearby which will be getting my minimum coffee and snack spend. Grantham, Peterborough (now expanded to 24 Ionity) etc.

Tesla would like to install open to all superchargers everywhere, which are the taller V4 units. Welcome Break will only allow Tesla to install and operate Tesla-only chargers so everyone else uses the Applegreen units, therefore Tesla V3 units are installed alongside. Chargers for specific car manufacturers are not required to follow the new regulations.

Plus if the Tesla chargers were open to all the site would be swamped. It'll probably get more business than the old site, and there are only 8 Vs 10.
Gloucester was like that. Can't blame others using the car cheaper Tesla chargers but it's a bit annoyng when they are all occupied and Tesla drivers have to use the gridserves.
Shame for those on the A46 corridor too.

And yes, cable theft, not cake theft! I did like the old site because I'd buy my lunch at the M&S but there's nowt worth eating at the (un)Welcome Break
