Reading a few threads of returned Leafs, can peeps start listing photos and charges for wear and tear from RCI please. Some of the alloy wheel damage shouldn't have been charged for..... a nick for £55

Might help some plan for the cost of repairs prior to returning the vehicle or help them fight the cost.

We've just damaged our Leaf coming into our driveway. Not sure how to proceed! We're fully comp insurance, on a 3 year PCP but do we repair without insurance (but tell them) via dealer or with independent body shop? Should we leave it till the end of the PCP and get everything done at once? Damage is small but at the base of the rear door panel (not the door itself but just behind) but the panel looks to go all the way to the front! :-D

i have just had my leaf inspected over this morning by Manheim Autions who do the inspections for a lot of car companys the chap went over it like a fine tooth comb he came up with the following dent on rear door £48 dent on quarter panel £48 scratched smart repair on tailgait £40 my car was gleaming and i disputed damage i told him i would not be signing anything he told be most people question the price for damages and to take it up with Nissan once the bill comes in he said i will give you a tip for future do not wash your car before inspection leave it dirty it is harder to see scratches etc if any of my alloys had been damaged it would be £55 per wheel i have only had pcp deal for 2 years car has done 14000 and i thought it was in perfect condition one of the so called dents was very hard to see and i will definitely be disputing the bill madding thing is the car will be going strait to the car auction

Agree @BlackLeaf the guide does also specifically says the car should be clean. They would be within their rights to reschedule until it is clean and charge you for a 2nd visit i would imagine. On a PCP we have entered a contract and the fair wear and tear conditions are part of that.

Just because the report picked up very minor damage it may not be actioned by RCI - I returned a car last year (to a different finance company) where the inspection listed many items, with photos taken of all, and my report included costs for repair. I was ready to do battle once I received formal notification as I was sure the "damage" was within the fair wear and tear allowances. However my next contact from the finance company simply stated I had no further financial interest in the vehicle and thanked me for my custom.

Firstly, maybe this thread needs moving as it relates to RCI and that also covers the Zoe along with others???

I am reading it as a Zoe owner, as we entered into a 4 year PCP, which we are half way through, and 2 days into ownership some shit dinged the rear three quarter panel in a car park (no note, nothing).

So this thread is giving me a good idea of what to expect in 2 years time...

Although surely after 4 years of ownership they can't expect a perfect condition vehicle, can they?

Good luck getting them repaired if they are on a tekna, the diamond cut finish is difficult / impossible to repair on some manufacturer's wheels as there is not enough of the finish left to recut.

It may be worth pricing up taking the hit on return or ebay or scrap yard as other options.

Ours is due to go back in Feb. We were planning on taking it to a body shop and saying "do just enough work to avoid us getting a fine"

On that note... if a charging cable were to not make it back... what would the cost for that be?

Soo.... if you have both the brick and the 6.6 cable... you only need to return one of them so it seems. I'm not saying we have done this several times so far or anything... try your own luck.

In unrelated news we have a Tekna going back before Christmas so I'll report back with what they say. Once they invoiced us £700 for a gen1 Leaf but we didn't pay it and they never chased it.

If they want to start being funny over things like scuffs in the boot area i will happily see them in court over it.

Wear and tear can happen on day one or the last day of your lease. It just follows that over say 3 years there will be more accumulation of it. As long as it derives from normal use not abuse.

I don't feel it's any different to a normal PX. Dealer walks around and says should be worth 9k, with the high mileage and dents scuffed alloys etc... I'll give you 8.5k. Only thing with PCP is you pay cash instead of more on your next car.

Don't spend your PCP duration worrying about it. Just before return give it the once over and have stuff fixed and all should be good.

Mannheim didn't find anything on my returning Citroen DS3 after Chips Away fixed everything for £300.

Guys dont sweat the return just enjoy the car and look after it, the BVRLA guide is a good place to check, with my last car they tried it on for one alloy with a knick in it the usual £55.00, I was messed about with the pickup of the car, wrote a letter complaining and they waived the charge.

A family member runs a car detailing business and he regularly details cars that are to go back after the finance period is up, he recommends that you dont get minor damage fixed as its more expensive because most of the cars they pick up go straight in to auction the finance company dont even bother fixing minor scratches and nicks, he says many folks he knows got quotes from independent body shops that were 3-4 times more than what the vehicle assessor quotes so you are often better off just leaving the damage, also if like me you get messed about with pickup and or inspection times you can get the charges dropped completely, I have a copy of the letter I sent to them somewhere if anyone interested in seeing it.

Somebody did ask for this letter in another thread so I have posted it here, they of course waived the charges with a nice apologetic letter in return.(y)

I am writing to you in regard to the speculative invoice that you have sent me regarding the charge of £55.00 against the above vehicle, I was aware of 2 small scratches on the nearside front wheel rim but they fall inside the BVRLA guide for acceptable wear and tear, the car was immaculate, literally not a mark on it otherwise.

I generally would not have a problem in paying this but herein lies the bigger problem for me personally and something that you may or may not be aware of.

I was very happy with the car, so happy that we went in and purchased another car, at first I was surprised that I couldn’t simply return the old car to the dealer and pick the new car up? Seems the most obvious thing to me? Anyway I agreed that I would take delivery of the new car on the 30th of June and the old car would be picked up on the 1st of July from my house.

We picked up the new car from the dealer on June the 30th, I waited in on the 1st of July for the old car to be picked up, I had to book a day off from work to do this, and nobody showed up? I waited till 3 and called you on a 13p per minute line to be kept waiting until finally I got the number for the logistic company, I called them they put me hold for ages to then tell me the driver had broken down?

I explained to them that I had booked a day off from work and had been waiting in on what was the hottest day of the year for them to come, they said nobody could come today? I explained that I would then have to take another day off from work and pointed them to their letter that explained to me that If I had not been at home when they came to me they would have charged me £300 for the wasted trip? I asked them who I should send my invoice to for wasting my valuable time and precious day off, they simply said that there was a complaints form on their website.

I then had a number of calls around to my dealer, you (13p per min), the logistics company all taking my time & money and causing me significant stress and anxiety as the insurance on the old car was fast running out.

Days went by and nobody called, the insurance had to be swapped to the new car once the dealer stop gap insurance ran out leaving the old car sat on my drive uninsured, this was an incredibly stressful experience, I could not afford to insure the old car nor should I have to?

After a lot of calls and hassle the car was finally picked up from me a full 2 weeks later, this situation ruined the “new car experience” that we had been expecting to have with the new car, it also meant I had to take another day off from work to wait for the driver, all in all my experience with Nissan and RCI finance has been utterly terrible.

I hope you understand why I feel like this is a real kick in the teeth considering all the hassle that I have been put through, this could have been a great experience but it has been utterly horrible.

You can pursue me for the £55.00 charge; however I would hope that under the circumstances and as a gesture of good will that this will be waived, if I added up my 2 wasted days holiday and the phone calls not to mention the stress caused you wouldn’t want to be paying an invoice from me either.
