I have the option of buying a 2016 Kia soul EV but the battery isnt good it can do 37Miles on full charge, the vehicle has only done 53k Miles. What are the options for a replacement battery with better range??
will the newer 63kw battery fit in this old model??

No it will not. A 2016 model should be under warranty (7 years) provided the service schedule has been observed, and with such a poor range, KIA will almost certainly replace the battery. The replacement battery will have the newer technology cells used in the 30kWh model, which is the only practical update possible.

If KIA do not regard the car as under warranty, because the servicing has not been performed, walk away, unless the car is so cheap that it is worth paying for the replacement battery (I think it is over ÂŁ4k , but ask KIA)

EDIT: Just noticed you are in NZ, so the warranty may be different.

If a 30 kWh pack would fit mechanically, you would also need the harness and BMS from the donor car, as it is a 100cell-pair battery, whereas yours is 96 cell-pairs. What you could do is take 96 from the donor battery to put in your housing, as it is known that KIA have sometimes got dealers to fit the upgraded technology cells into original housings when providing warranty replacements for the 27 kWh. However, it is not known whether the BMS would need a software change to match the upgraded cell technology. Maybe a friendly local KIA dealer could advise?
