Hi all,

So decided to take the plunge and get a Model 3.

Prices broadly are:
20kish for a 2020 plate SR
23kish for a 2020 LR
25k upwards for a 2021 LR

My head says a SR will be fine, my heart says 2021 China build and longer range of up to 80 miles with better BHP... Which one should I listen too?

Coming from a C350e...

If you're not bothered about the refresh, heat pump or power boot, I'd recommend test driving both model years.

I've only ever had the refresh and the quality was great, not perfect, but justifiable, certainly far better than the American horror story ones I've seen on YouTube, but there are many here with older US built cars saying they're really not that horrible. Worth seeing if the quality would "bother" you for £20-23k

(LR sound system is great though)

The 21 refresh cars are much better made. They worked out a lot of the issues with the early cars and they have better build quality vs the pre 21 Freemont production ramp hell vehicles.

If i was looking at a model 3 I would get a 21 refresh car onwards personally. That said you would hope the older cars are mainly sorted now under warranty but you cant always assume this is the case. A lot of these cars were leased and generally people don't care about lease cars.

One of cheapest MIC SR with LFP battery is what I'd get. I think it's the sweet spot in build quality, usability and value.

I'd go for a 2021 SR over a 2020 LR. In fact I did. Here's why:

  • heat pump and no chrome.
  • LFP battery that can be charged to 100% routinely. I didn't see the point of having a LR battery that I could charge to 80%.
  • better build quality.
  • USS sensors

Check the inventory here, if you haven't already... United States Tesla All inventory

I'd go buy something like this, after haggling... There's no point in letting a dealer add a meaty premium when the manufacturer's warranty carries on a private sale.

Yeah seen a few 21 LRs around £28K but not as low as 25...at least not 'uncrashed" ones! Keeping an eye on them and they are getting tempting but sadly I just don't have the cash yet. Comparing it to the SR 21 plate (RWD now I guess?) there only seems to be about £2K difference so may as well go for the LR.
