2021 SR+ with the smaller LFP (52.5kWh) - real world range

Hey all,

I'm at the point where I've resolved to get a M3 with the LFP, and with Barclaycard offering a bit of 0% action, I may be getting it sooner than I originally planned. As best I've learned so far, the original 2021 SR+s came with a smaller LFP battery, 52.5kWh as opposed to 57.5kWh on the later models.

To anyone with this smaller battery, what kind of realistic ranges are you getting? I know the vast majority of my driving will be around town, and I'll have the might of the Supercharger network for the longer journeys, I'm just curious what to realistically expect from the model, particularly up at motorway speeds, though I'm more of a 60-65mph kind of guy which I'm sure would give a couple of extra miles!

Thanks!

Thanks for the inputs!

Another thought has just occurred to me. As I eagerly await the March '21 glut of cars to start appearing on the market, I'll likely have to travel around the country to look at some cars. Should I be happy and buy one, I'll have to drive it home. How does one pay for Supercharging before you're able to get the car into the app, which I believe requires you to have the V5C which is obviously going to take days?

I've got the newer ±62kWh (gross) LFP. 6 months in, it has lost about 2.7% of the new capacity. LFP batteries degrade quite a bit in the first few months. I exepect the trend to slow down. I started out with 274 "miles" and now have 265.7 "miles". -- Real range will be less, especially this time of year or at higher speeds,

I haven't driven far enough at 70mph to get meaningful numbers out of TeslaFi. My few long trips have been in terrible weather. One or two had the battery heater on for an entire segment. This makes my graphs look odd. Efficency at -5C would be better without the battery heater, but the car would have taken more time to charge.

211Wh/mi ~ 4.7mi/kWh
264Wh/mi ~ 3.8mi/kWh

I know everyone's circumstances are different, but as my credit score is pretty decent I'd like to know more about this 😁

Is it for existing customers only?
Possibly; I had an email through offering 0% on balance transfers until March '25 (with a 3.5% fee) or 0% on a money transfer until June '25 (with a 3.2% fee).

As a comparison, On Friday I drove my ‘21 M3LR from home along the A14/M6/M42/M5, into Bristol, then back onto the M5 to Exeter Services. A total of 216 miles. The temperature reached 8°C outside when it did stop raining when we reached Exeter Services. There was a strong headwind and It was raining most of the time with standing water and spray with lights on and wipers and heating at 21°C. It has the heat pump. My speed was set at 70mph wherever possible using Autopilot. The car was pre-conditioning for the last hour of driving which is what it seems to do when navigating to a Supercharger. I arrived with 5% which I thought was pretty good, having set off with 100%. It was parked on street in Bristol for a couple of hours with Sentry mode on. The car used 64kWh at an average of 294Wh/mile including the pre-conditioning. When I plugged it in it started charging at 241kW. It took 30 minutes to get to 80%. In our 64kWh Soul EV we would have had to stop somewhere long before & charge in those conditions! Plus the battery would not have been warm and I would have been lucky to get over 50kW charge rate in my experience, so it would have taken over twice as long to charge.

I’m looking forward to the warmer temperatures & better weather for some longer drives.

I have one of these... I'm averaging 250w/mile so year round I'd expect around 210 miles to full depletion.

In recent experience I found myself comfortably being able to get to Centerparcs Sherwood and back on a charge from home, in Winter if I drove sensibly, ~180 miles round trip. And unable to if I hit the 80s on the A1.

I'm fine with the range, I don't require more than it's got.

Thanks again for all the new posts including the data. Gives me a lot of confidence, and as mentioned I'm happy to sit on the motorway a little below 70mph anyway.

Now to work my way through adverts and predatory reservation terms from some dealers (I'm looking at you, PowerLease ), considering whether to buy without a test drive, and whether I trust getting something from a private seller. The joys of buying second hand!

There is also Eco cars in Orkney. They will find and bid on a car for you at one of the auctions. About £400-£500 to them and then you pay the auction price plus the buyer's costs and transportation. You are getting a car direct from the auction with no reconditioning. Balance of manufacturer warranty or no warranty.

They've got a 2021 M3 AWD LR Condition Grade 2 listed as an example. Price is an estimate of what the car will go for at auction, not a firm price.

I guess this means I've beaten Lawrence to getting a Tesla? :D
There are people not yet born who are going to beat Lawrence to getting a Tesla.

But then he is worth waiting for what with him being my bestie 😁😁
