You are wrong; my 2022 E208, has 2G.

So STELLANTIS/ Peugeot has to recall the cars to update to 4G, or 2G has to be continued; the SOS system of the cars MUST work by law.
No manufacturer will recall cars to do this.

There are regulations which state cars must have an eCall system of a particular type fitted which the manufacturer complies with. 4G will apply to all new vehicle types from 2026 and all new cars sold from 2027.

Regulations are not retrospectively applied - just as the MoT does not require diesel cars built in 2005 to be recalled to have a DPF fitted.

Sweden is turning off 2G in 2027 and has simply advised manufacturers like Dacia who have no intention of upgrading until the very last moment to tell their customers that the eCall 'will stop working shortly after purchse'.

and you‘re comfortable with that?

also could you please provide your Dacia source document/link so I can add to the list? (the purpose of this thread). Thanks

Well, life moves on. Cars have always been one of the more ephemeral parts of life with most of us changing them fairly regularly.

I start with the best will in the world - 'the next car I own I'll keep for years and never change it' - but by my reckoning my next car will be the 20th I've owned and it'll be chopped in long before the OTA updates or eCall goes obsolete.

It's called progress and in the world of EVs technology is evolving far more rapidly than ICEs. Today's game-changing models will look outdated in five years.

2G shutdown is a long way off in the UK at least (early 2030s by the reckoning of most networks), which really is the concern for the majority here for SOS calling functionality. There’s very little (totally zero actually) any of us can do about it, including shouting at clouds.

Otherwise as said for data connectivity most cars since the mid/late twenty-teens have had 4G/LTE connectivity. 3G shutdowns are already in play, and those car owners affected by it, already know it.

This is correct

2. “3G shutdowns are already in play and those car owners affected by it, already know it.”

This is NOT correct:
  • see Swedish link posted by @RolandButter (above)
  • my own (anecdotal) experience buying an EV: eCall was demonstrated but nothing was said about it ceasing to operate after 2/3G switch off (this is buried inside the 500+ page Owner Manual)
3. “Otherwise as said for data connectivity most cars since the mid/late twenty-teens have had 4G/LTE connectivity”

but many don’t (see list being compiled)

4. “2G shutdown is a long way off in the UK at least… which really is the concern for the majority here for SOS calling functionality”

This is NOT correct. If your family member is in an accident involving no other vehicle and leaves the road then, without 3G, eCall CANNOT send precise location data, meaning delays in emergency services locating the vehicle which may have serious consequences for your family member(s)
