85d V 90d - Can't decide

As per my previous thread, I'm in the market for a 90d.

Today I was offered a 85d with the following spec and only 50 miles.

Panoramic roof
19” cyclone wheels
Black alcantara headliner
Black leather seats
Autopilot
Premium interior and lighting
Rear facing seats (7 seater!) - Don't need this but nice to have
Pearl white multi-coat paint - Don't need this but nice to have (With the panoramic roof, I think this looks great!)

Apart from the last 2 options, its almost the exact spec I'm looking for. The only thing missing to make this spec perfect for me is the premium sound option. I'm not fussed about the 3 month wait so am not willing to pay a premium for being able to avoid the wait.

The car isn't being offered at a discount as it only has delivery miles.

What I can't decide is if it's worth getting the exact spec I want and get the 90d (it will have the premium sound but won't have pearl white paint or the rear seats) or if I should compromise and get the above car. The main issue for me with the above car is the range is fractionally less than the 90d. (Maybe 10 miles in the real world?) Most of my journeys range from 120 to 250 miles (round trip but with access to supercharges on the M4, M40 and M1) so how much of a concern should it be if I have 10 less miles in capacity?

I'll be purchasing the car using PCP. According to the PCP calculator on the Tesla site, the new car will cost me circa £40 extra over the nearly new car. The GMFV is £900 more for the new car at the end of the 3 years.

I guess I shouldn't worry about the 85d being 'older' (assuming the 90d will be current in 3 years) as I'll most likely just hand the car back at the end of year 3.

Your thoughts?

From what I've read there is no real-world difference between the 85 and 90. (In fact my initial order 6 months ago for an 85 I changed to a 70 as the range difference didn't seem to justify the additional 8.5 grand !) besides you can always make up that range difference by just driving a little more carefully. The only thing that might possibly sway it is the 90 might be a little more desirable when it comes to moving the car on later.

As Billy says , a good problem to have!

If you don't need 7 seats and white multi coat, then you are just wasting money, I would go for 90D, forget the cyclone wheels, and get your sound, bet your payment would be similar now. Providing you're not bothered about the 3 months wait(probably more like 4-5months wait)

I would push the button before April, prices are expected to increase !!

I think @kin has confused cyclones and turbines.. I think he means go with the 19 inch standard cyclones. not the 21 inch turbines. But I also think you were there anyway ;)

I regret not getting the stereo upgrade the standard is noticeably deficient in some areas.
I went with the winter option, no I have not used the heated wipers (just heats lower screen?), but I have used the heated seats (at least 4 of them!) the heated wheel (only yesterday When I came down from Snowdon) and the heated mirrors (come on with heated rear screen).
I also opted for the air suspension for better motorway range in low, better clearance in car park fields, and our horrendous city centre traffic calming....

I'm assuming it's not pre-registered, if it is then I'd definitely expect a discount. There's showroom cars with 50 miles on discounted on the website, but they come with reduced 50k warranty.
There's an £800 referral offer on showroom cars if you know someone else with a Tesla, but I'm with kin on this if it's not the exact spec you want and you're in no hurry then why have extras you don't need.
One thing I was wondering is if you go in now and get an official quote it states it's valid for 7 days which would take you past the price hike/facelift??? if you wanted to see what's changing (other than the price), so could you do that to keep the "old model" in case it's just a price hike.

85D vs 90D - Your thoughts?
I would agree that 10 miles sounds about right for the difference in range, in real life the choice is unlikely to make a great deal of difference. The bigger the battery the faster it is expected to charge. The 90 battery probably all have the latest smart fuse and contactor even if you do not pick the relevant ludicrous option.
Daily short drives - it makes no difference as you can charge either overnight & will still have just over 200 miles range.
For longer journeys - the spacing of the Superchargers and CHAdeMO stations wherever you want to go has a greater impact than the battery you pick.
In my view the only essential feature is the Autopilot, the rest is all down to personal preferences, usability etc.
other considerations
- the pano roof gives a bit more headroom in the back if you carry people over 6ft tall, and is needed if you ever want to use a roof rack.
Third party sound upgrades are supposedly better than the Tesla sound upgrade

I'be had my 70D for jus over 2 weeks now, and we are currently on our first long distance trip to the North of Scotland. The range has not been a problem at all.

One thing that I would never had initially considered is the air suspension. 19 inch on coils suits most people just fine and I would agree - until I scrapped the underside whilst going over the speed bump leaving the Gretna Supercharger! I've scrapped it again going through another car park as well, so the ground clearance is not as good as some have originally posted.

So might be worth considering if you have the funds.

Has anyone else had this problem?

A quick copy and paste from the other thread:

Ah the Gretna Green speed hump! It caught me out because I did not realise how big it was and didn't raise the suspension in time. Won't happen again!

I actually touched coming off the speed bump. I was watching a car whose path I was going to cross and didn't raise the suspension and was going a gnats too fast for the bump.
