I have a new BMW on order and it comes with BMW charging subscription + Ionity plus for 12 months. My quesiton is what happens after this 12 months expire. I mostly do city drives but would like to take road trip once or twice a year (EU). Based on charging situation I would prefer to use Ionity mostly when I'm in different country (Germany, Austria, Italy). My understanding is that it was joint venture with BMW (and other car makers) and BMW users will get some cheaper Ionity tarrif. When I check BMW charging site (lets take Ireland for example: BMW Charging | Tariffs | Ireland) there is clearly no benefit for BMW owner. You still have to pay 13 EUR monthly Ionity subcsription fee (binding for 12 months....can't have it only for one month). Is there something that I'm missing? Is there any middle tier price or maybe but Ionity credit? Can any BMW owner provide some info about this?
I know that 13 eur per month is not the end of the world but still I dont like to pay for service that I dont use.
This will be my first EV and naturally I'm worried about longer trips and arriving to a charger in different country only to find it needs some special card that I can't get on the spot. To be honest if Tesla didn't raise prices just know I would probably be thinking about preordering Tesla 3.

In the UK most chargers are listed on Zap-Map and the government is looking at forcing all providers to accept contactless payments with a standard bank card. I don’t know what the European equivalent of Zap-Map is but if there is one, it will tell you where you can charge without a subscription.

From my experience, PAYG is more expensive per unit than a membership but if you go months without using the service, it may still be cheaper and is certainly more flexible, because you’re not tied to one provider.

In a year, Tesla would have opened up its SC (likely requires membership). With more competition, membership-only price discrimination would gradually disappear, replaced with better PAYG rates for everyone. Or the charger operators might copy mobile operators and force everyone onto monthly plans with poor speeds and coverage.

That would be great. At the moment I would just like to see some middle-ground solution. So not full membership but maybe some sort ob kW credits hehe. Like sell pack(credits) of 200/500/1000 kWh or something like this :)
Paying 156 EUR anually to only use service 2 or 3 times is really something that many people will just pass and find some alternatives.

So nobody knows if there is some sort of lower tarrif using the BMW after first 12 months expire?
