Not on the timer as far as I know.
You certainly can via the app (when it works).

I had a proper smug face last night going to work in my gen 1. Set the charging timer via the Leaf Manager app and it was lovely and warm and fully defrosted when I set off. It was not plugged and had about 40 miles on the range.

 

So the timer SHOULD set the heating going at a preset time, on a gen1?

 

These are my findings:

The in-car timers have only ever worked when plugged in for me.

The timer that you can set from the app does work when unplugged. You are at the mercy of Carwings though i.e. it's not particularly reliable.

The timer you set from the app is a one time deal. It just works (or doesn't!) that day.

Once selected, it then shows it on the screen

 

I can switch it on from that app and the Nissan excuse of one, but the timer doesn't come on unless plugged in.

Is there a software update for gen1's?

 

Not sure. Are you using the Jap/Asia server on Leaf Manager? If I use Europe or Europe alt, it doesn't work. Jap server seems to highlight the set timer button whereas other servers have the option greyed out.

 

Only some of the servers have the option (go figure).
As I understand setting the timers on the servers, effectively schedules a request to turn on climate as per the app.
It doesn't set the timer in the car as such hence it should work on Gen 1's as well.
Personally I would be wary of something that can regularly turn on the climate however it will never run it _completely_ flat as you need IIRC 15% battery to turn on climate (pre-heat).

 

Leaf Manager worked a treat tonight. Toasty warm car on a cold evening.

Strange how Nissan can't update the software on the car to work when not plugged in, and strange how the offical Nissan app doesn't allow the timer, yet some independent bod has managed it.

 

I used Leaf Manager tonight to set a timer and it worked perfectly. Obviously I don't have a control Leaf to compare whether Carwings would have worked anyway but it's certainly an improvement on yesterday.

 

Answer is yes you can. I have never ever bothered with timers, but I have turned on car heating (while not charging) in my gen 2 by using Car Wings, via the website.
