Hi everyone,

I picked up my first EV on Monday, a Kia Niro. Very please with it. Has a great range which is what i need for my job.

I have tried a few charging points with varying results. Notably, when checking my bank statement last night, I noticed I have been charged £15 by both "Chargemaster PLC Luton" and "Motor Fuel Limited-THALONDON GBR"

I didn't spend this much at the charging points. And for two charges of the same amount to come out from two companies, it's left me confused as to what the charges are for. I must admit I didnt read any small print on the charge points beforehand due to the awful weather, so perhaps i've overlooked a standing charge or first time charge? Any advice on what these charges are for will be appreciated. Thanks

I was once charged £10 by Polar Chargemaster for overstaying at a rapid charger. They have a strict 90 minute limit, but this was not clearly marked on the charger.

I complained to Polar and they refunded me. I won't make that mistake again. I understand the purpose of the overstay fee and it has had the desired effect of making sure I do not block the rapid chargers.

All posts now have a sticker explaining this. 90 minutes is a long time on a rapid and staying longer deserves a fine IMO. And I own a 22kW charging Zoe...

Charger Companies register a ‘hold’ on your card to make sure that it’s good for the cash. It’s called a pre authorisation fee. Nothing is taken from your bank - it’s just pending. Then, when the correct cost is known the fee is released and the right price charged. No mystery. Many petrol stations do the same.

Was this your actual bank statement (paper or PDF) or just the bank app/website transaction list, and presumably for a credit card? The current transactions on app/website will show pre-auth transactions where they have put a hold on funds until the 'real' transaction goes through and then they are meant to release it. If its on an actual pukka paper/PDF statement (with your address, and bank header etc), then I'd call the bank and tell them it was not authorised especially if there is an actual transaction on the statement for the charge too. Tell them which is the real transaction and they should get the other refunded.

Contact your card provider, and see if it's a pre-auth and they should be able to tell you the expiry date.
In my case MFG funds only released 3 weeks later - didn't feel nice!
I'm sure that's a bit naughty these days, they aren't meant to hold it longer than is required, that seems excessive. I've only used MFG a few times 18 months ago (before I had my PowerPass card), and I'm sure they didn't hold the pre-auth more than a couple of days (if that).
