I saw this today at yet another Geniepoint charger at a Morrisons that wasn't working. All the ones I have tried to use over the past few weeks are broken and have been for some time.

Still, I thought it was funny...

Can't say that I've ever charged (or even considered doing so) at our local Morrisons but during a couple of recent long distance trips I used several of them without any problems. Probably just luck although it must have helped that I was choosing stores that weren't on a direct route to anywhere else so chargers would probably have been little used.

They are a bit clunky and old fashioned but have saved me a couple of times (the most recent time on the way to Nottingham when three separate Pulse rapids let me down)!

Wouldn’t have ever used them before Bonnet came along. But have tried a couple since signing up to Bonnet. First one charged ok - bit slow but did the job. Second one I tried just wouldn’t play ball. Tried a few times but no luck. Tried phoning Geniepoint but no one answered!!!

Had weekend away in North Wales and stayed in Porthmadog at a brand new Premier inn 2 weeks ago which has on site charging ( Three 7kW posts ) but was not on vendelectric app / map so could not start a charge and vendelectric don't work weekends ?
So lucky for me the Geniepoint with AC43kW cable in Caernarfon 20 miles away worked ok. (y)

On the way to Porthmadog just in case i stopped at Bala to use a Swaco Rapid but looks like its only 16kW on AC ( tested with CanZE ) but Swarco say 43kW.

Swarco has a contract to install more 50kw Rapids in North Wales :

The installation of the chosen sites will result in a rapid charge point around every 25 miles on the Welsh Strategic Road Network. Installations will be spread across four Local Authority areas: Ceredigion, Powys, Denbighshire and Gwynedd.
The sites will be located in Local Authority car parks in - Cardigan, Newtown, Welshpool, Crickhowell, Machynlleth, Talgarth, Corwen, Dolgellau, Porthmadog, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Bala and a public house car park in Llangurig.

Now the Geniepoint one in Southport that has not worked for months is another story.

There was a queue for the 2 Instavolt rapids in Booths car park in Penrith last week, as there often is, but as is also often the case nobody was using the unloved GeniePoint rapid in the Morrison’s across the road.

It was the same one that Guy Martin roasted when he was trying his electric road trip recently.

They have their uses, old and clunky, but generally deliver a solid 50kW charge and not that pricey compared to Instavolt. Just wish there were more of them, like a lot of networks really.

What are they saying about your experience? You have contacted them about this, right?

The chargers of theirs that work seem to be reliable - just they have a load which are broken and presumably they are struggling to get parts for. Somebody commented in another thread some time back that the unit they installed in a lot of the Morrisons was a particular model also used by a different provider, who ended up replacing all theirs due to reliability issues. So I think the issue is that GeniePoint have ended up with a load of chargers that have inherent problems, and the silicon shortage means they can't repair them in a timely manner. I doubt either them or Morrisons want this situation! (although maybe Morrisons don't realise?)

Hmm, title of this thread grabbed me, as, for a few years now i have had about ÂŁ7 Genie credit that I wanted to use up
Anyway, decided i to have a try at my local Morrisons, with my new MG5 which is CCS, previous car was a Leaf - Chademo. Initially tried before prices went up, but couldn't getthe charger up in the Genie app - nearest one showing appeared to be in America! back home fiddling with phone back on WiFi, realised phone just needed rebooting. Tried again today, to find prices have gone up!! Anyway, tried with Geniepoint app, tried connecting, watched the timer count down to zero, nothing, left it a while, timer came up again, counted down to zero, nothing still, unplugged, moved away from charger, give someone else a chance, bit of shopping, then decided to try again, but this time with the Bonnet app, pretty much the same, except bonnet app did give an error message (communication problem) and some hints (pretty much try again later, or try another charger )
gave up on that, down the road to Lidl, thank heaven for podpoint!! Got my charge, half the (per kWh) price and so comparatively easy. If I ever do manage to use up my Genie credit I don't think i will extend the relationship after that, - if i don't give up before then..

Most of their chargers are the same model as the Corri-Door rapids in France that were permanently taken out of service “due to safety issues” a couple of years ago. Not sure if that’s connected…

I had a reply to my complaint today from GeniePoint about the broken charger at my local Morrisons (Plymouth)... this was their reply:

Good afternoon Paul,

Thank you for your email. We are sorry that there continues to be a problem with our Morrisons Plymstock charger. I have checked with our faults team who have confirmed that we have not been able to resolve the fault.

Due to ongoing issues with receiving parts into the country from our manufacturers in Europe, our fault repairs are taking longer than we would like and I am afraid that we are not able to provide a timescale.

They are liaising with the charge point manufacturer, please be assured that as soon as the fault has been rectified it will show as available on our live map.

If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards

GeniePoint Support
Not likely to be fixed anytime soon then :(

You are asking too politely. Tell them you'd like to sue them for loss of convenience under your subscription contract, and that they should cascade that liability back to the manufacturers of their equipment.
