Hi.

Appreciate this has been asked before but confused by the answers.

I have Octopus Go and have my wall charger set up to only provide power during the cheaper rates.

I am trying to figure out how to set up the car to only charge to 90%. I am however retired so there can be times when the car isn’t used for several days and others where used everyday.

What is the easiest way to set up the car so when I plug it in it will only charge to 90% without having to constantly play around with schedules.

It was suggested setting my home location to max charge of 90% and then pressing the delay charging button in the flap but this hasn’t worked.

Wouldn’t have thought this should be difficult but it doesn’t appear to be simple either.

Thanks

Do as you have done, but ensure you have enabled the timer and your minimum charge level is also set to 90%.

In the car. As long as you have a timer set, the car will charge the battery to the minimum that is set on the e-manager (90% in your case), then stop once this figure is reached. Set the target charge % to 90% as well.

The car will immediately begin charging to try to hit the 90% minimum, unless the EVSE won't supply electricity due to its settings.

I wouldn't set the minimum charge to 90% as it will always charge to that as soon as you plug it in and he won't get the benefit of the cheaper night rate. Minimum charge setting on the car ignores the off peak rate setting.

Set the minimum charge low, say 10%. The maximum charge to 90% and the off peak time to match the cheaper night rate, give or take half an hour.

I honestly wouldn't bother with using any smart settings on the charger itself as I've found them to be hit and miss. Set the charging unit to instant charge, or boost etc and the car will then request charging instead via the settings in the infotainment.

Ensure the checkbox is ticked too. I'll take a picture of my setup in a bit if you want?

It won't charge as soon as plugged in if the EVSE is on a timer.

However I admit, as the owner of a 'dumb' EVSE, I only ever use the car timer method described above and it works just fine.

Suggest the OP tries both methods and see which one works best for them.
